Job Overview:
- We are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Integrated Transport Officer to play a leading role in shaping the future of transport across the county.
- This is an exciting opportunity to influence transport policy, secure investment, and deliver sustainable travel initiatives that improve connectivity for residents, businesses, and visitors.
- Working within the Transport Planning Service, you will lead the delivery of integrated transport priorities within the Local Transport Plan, drive active travel initiatives, and support the development of safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of integrated transport projects and policies across Herefordshire.
- Manage and develop the Local Cycling, Walking and Wheeling Infrastructure Plan (LCWWIP).
- Identify and secure external funding opportunities, including Department for Transport (DfT) funding streams.
- Develop successful business cases and funding bids.
- Work collaboratively with partners including Active Travel England, local stakeholders, community groups, and regional authorities.
- Commission, manage, and monitor consultants and transport projects.
- Provide specialist transport planning advice to senior management and elected members.
- Support stakeholder engagement and public consultation activities.
- Contribute to strategic planning, sustainability, and infrastructure development across the county.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Transport Planning, Transportation, Civil Engineering, Planning, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional qualification or working towards chartered status.
- Experience in transport planning, active travel, transport policy, or infrastructure delivery.
- Strong knowledge of national transport policy and funding mechanisms.
- Experience managing projects, budgets, and external consultants.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and partnership-working skills.
- Ability to develop practical transport solutions and influence strategic decision-making.
