Secondary School Teaching Assistants Wanted – Liverpool
Are you confident, resilient and good at building relationships with teenagers?
We are currently recruiting Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants to work in secondary schools across Liverpool, supporting young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Pupils may have needs including:
- Autism / ASD
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
- Complex additional needs
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Challenging behaviour
- Additional learning needs
We are particularly interested in candidates who are calm under pressure, confident managing challenging situations and able to establish clear boundaries while building positive relationships with young people.
What will you be doing?
As a Secondary School Teaching Assistant, you could be supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or within the classroom.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH
- Providing 1:1 behaviour and learning support
- Building positive relationships with pupils who may struggle to engage with education
- Helping pupils regulate their emotions and behaviour
- Managing and de-escalating challenging situations
- Encouraging pupils to engage with lessons and school life
- Providing consistent boundaries and expectations
- Working closely with teachers, SENDCOs and pastoral teams
- Acting as a positive role model and mentor
Do I need school experience?
Not necessarily.
Previous experience working in a secondary school, SEND school, PRU or alternative provision would be beneficial, but we are also keen to hear from people with transferable experience working with teenagers and young adults outside education.
Relevant backgrounds could include:
- Youth workers
- Sports coaches
- Football or boxing coaches
- Youth mentors
- Residential support workers
- Children's residential care workers
- Support workers
- Behaviour mentors
- Mental health support workers
- Outreach workers
- Community workers
- Armed Forces backgrounds
- Graduates with experience working with young people
If you've worked with young people and know how to build rapport, command respect, maintain boundaries and stay calm when situations become challenging, your experience could transfer extremely well into a school environment.
