Job Summary
Amcol Scotland Ltd are committed to the care and welfare of young peiple in a childcare envrionment and are seeking to recruit a Kitchen Assistant to join our established team. The contract will be 15 hours per week working between 11:30am - 2:30pm Monday to Friday, on a 38-week term-time contract. This position will involve providing well-balanced, nutritional foods and snacks for the children who attend Firtrees Nursery.
Responsibilities
1. To provide nutritional food for those who attend Firtrees Nursery
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals as required for the children who attend Firtrees Nursery.
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals for the staff of Amcol Scotland Ltd.
- Prepare nutritional snacks for the children as required
- To follow policies and procedures for all individual Dietary Requirements
- To provide tasting experiences for staff, children and families
2. To adhere to all Health and Safety requirements and ensure all of these requirements are consistently applied
- To wear the appropriate protective clothing at all times.
- To undertake all cleaning duties within the kitchen area, regularly and periodically.
- To follow all food preparation guidelines and regulations at all times.
- To follow procedures for the disposal of all waste occurs in the proper manner.
- To keep all health and safety records completed and up to date at all times.
- Assist in continually assessing the process involved in the kitchen to minimise the risk of contamination.
3. To assist in developing the process and procedures within the kitchen
- To assist in continually updating the process and procedures within the kitchen to ensure the continued adherence to all regulations.
- To participate in any external and internal training in relation to post.
- To assist in the review of current practices and make any changes as required.
4. To ensure that a cleaning rota is undertaken and adhered to at all times.
- To undertake a periodic cleaning rota for all areas of the kitchen as outlined within the regulations and internal policies and procedures.
- To ensure the kitchen is cleaned at the end of each working day.
- To provide the ingredients required and outlined within the baking request forms
- To assist in cooking any foods prepared by the children.
- Any other reasonable request made by the company or may be required by the company in-line with its business requirements.
- Any other duties as required
What we're looking for
Previous experience in catering, cooking, or restaurant environments is preferred but not essential; enthusiasm to learn is key.
Basic knowledge of food preparation, meal assembly, and kitchen safety standards.
Strong understanding of food safety protocols and hygiene practices.
Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen setting while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent teamwork skills with a positive attitude towards collaboration.
Willingness to undertake training in culinary techniques and health & safety procedures.
