We are seeking a Courier, Post Room & Supplies Assistant within our Facilities Management (FM) team. The Facilities Management team manages a portfolio of properties on behalf of the County Council. As part of this team, you will be making a difference and enhancing the effectiveness of the Council.

You will receive and record incoming post and deliveries, sort and transport post and a variety of different goods around the county and ensure that an efficient distribution and collection service is provided, including ensuring cheques, cash, valuables and confidential papers and files are collected, transported safely and stored securely.
You will also be responsible for giving advice on and approving stationery orders and orders for other items, ensuring stocks levels remain as required and the correct items are ordered.
At our base in Chichester you will also spend some of your time on the Stores counter, serving colleagues arriving to make enquiries, collect stationery orders and IT equipment. You’ll also assist with other administrative tasks such as mail merges, printing, enveloping for postage and franking outgoing post using the equipment provided.
The work may sometimes involve working with challenging customers or those suffering trauma, which will require empathy, professionalism and personal resilience. You will need to be able to travel independently to various venues and locations across the County to support your team providing face to face support.
What you’ll need to succeed
You must hold a full clean UK driving licence and be physically fit and capable of loading / unloading vehicles with objects of various sizes and weights for delivery, as well as lifting and moving stock for most of the working day.
You’ll need to be a great team player who can communicate professionally with, and provide clear advice to, a range of different contacts and colleagues, build and maintain strong working relationships and organise your time effectively to complete daily tasks.
You’ll be able to think on your feet and resolve queries and issues from delivery recipients professionally and confidently, using judgement and knowledge.
Key Skills
- Good verbal communication skills for effectively communicating, resolving queries and providing advice confidently and professionally for colleagues and external stakeholders, e.g. schools staff, GP surgery staff, fire station staff and members of the public.
- High level of fitness and strength to be able to lift, move, load and unload deliveries for most of the working day.
- Good organisation skills and the ability to work at pace, without supervision, so that your tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Initiative to overcome problems whilst also following required processes, such as in the event of delivery vehicle breakdown or accident, or when there is an issue with a delivery or collection.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to changing situations and new ways of working positively and effectively, including the ability to contribute new ideas and put forward suggestions for improvements, learn new computerised systems and processes and write procedure notes.
- Ability to learn and use equipment such as franking machines, enveloping machines, printers, road maps and satnav equipment and advise colleagues on the use of the equipment.
Qualifications and/or experience:
- English & Maths GCSE or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience of working in a warehouse, office or similar environment.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, including the ability to undertake tyre
pressure, water and engine oil checks.
