Job Summary
The Process Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of Malary's oil processing and associated treatment systems. The role plays a key part in maximising production output, maintaining product quality, and ensuring all processing activities are conducted in accordance with site procedures, environmental permits, and health and safety standards.
Working as part of the wider onsite operations team, the Process Engineer will monitor and control process performance and contribute to the continuous improvement of operational efficiency across site.
Process Operations
- Operate and monitor the oil processing plant to ensure production of PFO is maintained at optimum quality and throughput levels.
- Continuously analyse process performance and product characteristics to determine appropriate operating parameters and production rates.
- Monitor key process indicators, identify deviations from expected performance, and take appropriate corrective action or escalate concerns where required.
- Support the efficient running of all associated treatment processes, including water treatment operations and bulk liquid handling activities.
- Ensure process equipment is operated safely and effectively in accordance with operating procedures and risk assessments.
- Assist with troubleshooting plant issues and communicate equipment faults, breakdowns and process abnormalities promptly to the Oil Process Supervisor or Shift Manager.
Materials Management and Compliance
- Unload, sample, test and assess incoming waste oils and bulk liquids in accordance with site acceptance procedures.
- Ensure waste streams are correctly segregated and stored within designated tanks and storage locations.
- Monitor stock levels of waste oil, PFO, water, sludge and other process materials, escalating capacity or stock concerns before they impact operations.
- Ensure all product movements, process records, weighbridge documentation and operational paperwork are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate laboratory sampling requirements and ensure samples are collected, labelled and submitted in line with site procedures
Health, Safety and Environmental Standards
- Adhere to all Malary health, safety, environmental and compliance requirements.
- Wear and maintain appropriate PPE at all times and operate in accordance with site rules, permits and safe systems of work.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards across the oil process area, ensuring workspaces remain clean, organised and audit-ready.
- Identify hazards, unsafe conditions or environmental risks and report them promptly through the appropriate channels.
- Support the company's commitment to environmental responsibility, resource recovery and continuous operational improvement.
Operational Support
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across operations, logistics, laboratory and maintenance functions to ensure the smooth running of the depot.
- Support loading and unloading activities to ensure transport schedules and customer commitments are achieved.
- Provide accurate operational information and production data to supervisors and managers as required.
- Participate in operational improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing downtime and improving process reliability.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the effective operation of the business.
Required
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science.
- Good understanding of chemical processes and safe handling of hazardous materials.
- Confined Space Training, or willingness to obtain.
Desirable
- Experience in a small–medium sized business environment
- Exposure to operations, project management, or process improvement
- Experience supporting senior leadership teams
Experience Required
- Previous experience within an industrial processing, waste management, manufacturing, engineering or operational environment.
- Experience working within health, safety and environmental compliance frameworks.
- Experience following operational procedures and maintaining accurate records
Experience Desirable
- Experience within waste oil processing, fuel production, liquid treatment or resource recovery operations.
- Mechanical or process plant experience.
- Experience operating pumps, tanks, separation systems or similar processing equipment.
