A specialist SEN school in Blackley is seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September until the end of the academic year. The school provides a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment for pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school, delivering planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher, providing targeted interventions, and working closely with teaching staff to ensure pupils receive the highest quality education and support. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HLTA who is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver pre-planned lessons across the school in the absence of the class teacher.
- Provide high-quality 1:1 and small group interventions to support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Support pupils with a range of SEND, adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
- Assist with the implementation of EHCPs, behaviour support plans, and therapeutic strategies.
- Promote positive behaviour and support pupils with emotional regulation.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, and the wider support team.
- Contribute to assessment, progress monitoring, and pupil record keeping where appropriate.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all pupils.

The Successful Applicant Will
- Have previous experience working as a HLTA or in a similar role within a school setting.
- Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
- Be confident leading whole-class learning and delivering planned lessons.
- Be calm, patient, resilient, and adaptable in a specialist environment.
- Demonstrate excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
- Have the right to work in the UK and be available to work full-time from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
- Hold a HLTA qualification or equivalent (desirable).
- Have Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour support training (desirable).
