Our Volunteers are women from many different backgrounds, and we celebrate the diversity this brings to our organisation. We strongly encourage women who have their own experience of the criminal justice system to apply.
If you are a woman living in the Dorset area, we encourage you to join our community and begin a journey of empowerment. This work can be challenging at times, but it is incredibly rewarding and full of joy and laughter too.
All women are required to attend free training before becoming Peer Mentor Volunteers.
Training –
The training is designed to teach women the skills needed to offer both emotional and practical peer support to women who have been in prison / or on probation.
The training sessions run for 4.5 hours per week, starting early September, for 3 weeks in a central location in Poole.
We cover topics such as sexual and domestic abuse, empowerment, trauma, and the unique challenges facing women with lived experience of the criminal justice system.
Attendees will have the opportunity to gain an accredited OCN Level 2 qualification (fully funded).
Duties -
Peer support to women involved in the criminal justice system.
Accompanying women to appointments such as at the job centre or with housing.
Helping women access activities such as exercise classes and community events.
Accompanying women to court hearings.
Supporting the delivery of peer support groups.
Supporting women to resettle into their community after returning from prison.
