About the Role
We are looking for a qualified teacher with experience delivering Functional Skills within Study Programmes, Traineeships, Post-16 education or similar settings, to join our Study Programme Team and deliver Maths & English Functional Skills to learners aged 16–18 across our three Kent locations. The anticipated start date is 1 September 2026.

The role operates across Maidstone (ME15 6BD), Medway (ME1 1EW), Gravesend (DA12 2HU), and Dartford (DA1 1RT). Tutor assignments to learner cohorts will be mutually agreed based on business needs and tutor’s location.

What You’ll Do
- Manage a caseload of learners through classroom teaching and ongoing support in line with quality assurance standards and procedures
- Use initial and diagnostic assessments to measure learner progress and distance travelled
- Deliver Functional Skills training and assessment tailored to individual learner needs
- Identify and report Additional Learning Needs (ALN) accurately to support learner progress and funding compliance
- Work collaboratively with tutors and skills coaches to address Functional Skills development needs
- Use assessment outcomes to create individual Functional Skills plans
- Monitor learner progress and address barriers to achievement
- Maintain regular learner contact and assessment activity
- Ensure learners complete assessments, tasks and presentations on time
- Support learner progress through collaboration with staff, employers and mentors
- Maintain accurate learner records on Pass Functional Skills and OneFile
- Prepare learners for exams in line with internal, awarding body and ESFA requirements
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources
- Mark work and provide timely, constructive feedback
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, British Values, Prevent, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Promote JGA services to learners and employers where appropriate
- Attend relevant events, meetings, training and standardisation activities
- Complete other reasonable duties as required
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Experience working with young people aged 16–18 in an education or support setting
- Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education & Training)
- Minimum Level 2 English and maths
- Experience delivering Functional Skills
- Knowledge of formative and summative assessment methods
- Strong ICT and Microsoft Office skills
- Understanding of Functional Skills standards and systems
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Attention to detail and a solution-focused approach
- Flexible, enthusiastic and well organised
- Commitment to safeguarding and professional learner relationships
Desirable
- Assessor qualification (CAVA, D32/33, TAQA or A1)
Training will be provided where required. The role is subject to a DBS check, qualification verification and online screening as part of our safer recruitment process.

Pay: £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
