Assistant General Manager
Number 90 Bar & Kitchen — Hackney Wick
Full-time | Competitive salary
We’re looking for a strong Assistant General Manager to join the team at Number 90 Bar & Kitchen — one of Hackney Wick’s best-known canal-side venues.
Number 90 is a bar, restaurant and late-night spot that moves with the rhythm of East London. By day we’re serving food and drinks by the water; by night we’re hosting DJs, parties and packed dance floors. From terrace sessions to late-night club energy, the venue is busy, creative and always evolving.
We need someone who can run the floor, lead the team, and keep the operation tight when things get hectic.
The Role
You’ll work alongside the General Manager to keep the venue running smoothly across bar, restaurant and late-night events.
This is a hands-on management role — you’ll be on the floor during busy service, but also responsible for making sure the venue runs properly behind the scenes. That means keeping the team organised, the guests happy, and the operation fully compliant.
We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable balancing service leadership with the operational side of running a busy hospitality venue.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Running busy services and leading from the floor
- Supporting the GM with day-to-day venue operations
- Managing and motivating the bar and floor teams
- Maintaining high service standards during high-volume periods
- Assisting with rotas, stock control and ordering
- Supporting the delivery of events, DJs and private hires
- Ensuring the venue operates in line with licensing, health & safety and company procedures
- Handling staff issues, HR processes and team performance management
- Supporting recruitment, training and team development
- Helping build a positive and professional team culture
What We’re Looking For
- Experience as an Assistant Manager / AGM / Duty Manager in a busy bar, restaurant or late-night venue
- Strong knowledge of health & safety compliance and training within hospitality (essential)
- Experience handling HR matters including staff performance, disciplinaries and team management
- Confidence running high-volume services and late-night operations
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a team
- Organised, proactive and calm under pressure
- An understanding of East London hospitality and nightlife culture
A personal licence is a bonus, but not essential.

- Staff perks and discounts
- A genuinely fun place to work
- A team that actually enjoys working together
