We are seeking a passionate and experienced Positive Behaviour Support Specialist (PBSS) to join our dedicated team supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with Directors, operational teams, families, and external professionals to improve quality of life and empower individuals to achieve greater independence, personal growth, and social inclusion.
As a PBSS, you will play a key role in delivering person-centred, evidence-based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) interventions. You will lead functional assessments, develop and implement behaviour support plans, and provide expert guidance to staff and stakeholders. Your work will focus on understanding and reducing behaviours of concern while promoting positive outcomes for the people we support.
Main Purpose
Working closely with the Directors and operational staff, the PBSS will work with adults who have learning disabilities and autism. The primary goal of this role is to promote positive behaviour through individualised support, coaching, and intervention strategies. The PBSS will collaborate with families, educators, and other professionals to create an inclusive environment that encourages personal growth, independence, and social skills
Main Duties The Role
To oversee and carry out comprehensive functional assessment using the positive behaviour support framework. Working with stakeholders and leading on the synthesis of assessment outcomes, formulation and the development of positive behaviour support plans. To oversee the implementation and evaluation of behaviour support plans and to support families and staff to implement a variety of positive behavioural interventions. Reviewing of ABC's, near misses, incidents that are specific to behaviours. Leading, co-ordinating and monitoring of the Incident Review Groups (IRG's) To demonstrate the values of a Positive Behaviour Support approach and work with staff to ensure that these young adults receive a holistic, person-centred service with an emphasis on the prevention of behaviours of concern and improved quality of life. To offer advice and consultation on a Positive Behaviour Support approach to support staff and other, non-professionals. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. In doing so, be responsible for adhering to relevant policies, professional ethics and standards and be accountable for any actions.
Required
Experience working with adults with a Learning Disability and/or are Autistic. Experience of completing functional assessment, developing and implementing Positive Behaviour Support plans. Experience of managing and co-ordinating a caseload for self and others. Experience of working and making decisions autonomously
Essential Skills
- The use of PBS materials and processes including behavioural formulation and functional assessment; the writing, delivery and reviewing PBS plans.
- Ability to integrate the assessment, care planning and the review process for service users in a sensitive manner.
- Knowledge of the relevant NICE Guidelines Demonstrate understanding of Equality and Anti-discriminatory practice and ethical consideration of care.
- Evidence of continued professional development and training relevant to this post. Ability to work effectively within safeguarding procedures.
- Knowledge of the wide range of statutory independent and third sector service provision for Young Adults with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism.
- Knowledge of other relevant local and national documents/drivers that affects practice.
- Range of interpersonal skills, (communication, listening, working collaboratively) maintaining good working relationships with service users and staff, and other service providers and agencies.
- Good understanding of current strategies and policies in relation to learning disabilities.
- Ability to work to agreed Quality Standards (CQC).
- Accurate and timely recording and maintenance of information systems IT Skills
- Ability to manage conflict and complexity Ability to work flexibly and away from main base and colleagues

Salary £45k plus, depending on experience
