HGV Class 1 Night Driver – Two Positions Available

Location: Based at our Pitstone site, near Leighton Buzzard
Shift Pattern: Rotating four-night and five-night working weeks
Chiltern Transport & Warehousing Limited is looking to recruit two experienced HGV Class 1 Night Drivers to join our transport team.
The successful drivers will work on a rotating shift pattern designed to manage working hours fairly:
- Week One: Four-night working week, operating a double-deck trailer.
- Week Two: Five-night working week, operating a single-floor trailer.
The two drivers will rotate between these shift patterns each week.
The role will involve night-time deliveries to our Burton-on-Trent operation. Typical shifts leave our Pitstone site at approximately 6:30pm, returning by around 4:30am.
As with all transport operations, flexibility is essential. Some shifts may be shorter, while others may be longer depending on traffic, weather and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and deliver freight safely and professionally.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and on time.
- Maintain driving records, including mileage, tachograph records, timesheets, receipts, defect reports and daily debrief reports.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and basic vehicle maintenance.
- Report any vehicle defects promptly and arrange inspections or repairs when required.
- Ensure all loads are correctly secured and transported without damage.
- Operate all equipment safely and correctly.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety requirements.
- Communicate professionally with customers, colleagues and the UPN network throughout each shift.
- Keep your assigned vehicle clean and well maintained, inside and out.
- Be prepared to work in varying traffic, weather and operational conditions.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) licence.
- A valid Driver CPC qualification.
- A valid digital tachograph card.
- A minimum of two years’ Class 1 driving experience.
- A professional, reliable and safety-conscious approach.
- The flexibility to work the rotating four-night and five-night shift pattern.
