Aspect Ecology, part of the APEM Group, is looking for a Principal Ecologist to join our industry-leading team of specialists. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious ecologist ready to progress into a more senior position, taking ownership of a diverse portfolio of terrestrial ecology projects while working alongside experienced technical leaders who will support your continued development.
In this role, you'll lead ecological surveys, manage projects and prepare fee proposals, while producing high-quality technical reports and building strong relationships with clients. You'll have the opportunity to mentor junior colleagues, develop your commercial and project management skills, and play an increasingly important role in shaping the successful delivery of projects across the team.
By joining Aspect Ecology, you'll become part of an experienced team delivering projects across sectors including housing, retail, employment and renewable energy. As part of the wider APEM Group, you'll also collaborate with specialists from across the environmental sector, broadening your experience and contributing to multidisciplinary projects throughout the UK.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring:
- A minimum of four years' professional experience in ecological consultancy or a closely related field, including the public sector or conservation bodies.
- A relevant degree and/or postgraduate qualification.
- Strong botanical and protected species survey experience, including UKHab and/or Phase 1 Habitat Surveys.
- Experience producing high-quality technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, EcIAs, Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and protected species reports.
- Experience managing projects, with an interest in developing your leadership and mentoring skills.
- Confidence building positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
