Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable, skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join the team at Stanbrook Care Home.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the building, grounds, equipment and facilities are maintained to a high standard. The role will include routine maintenance, repairs, safety checks, planned preventative maintenance and responding promptly to maintenance issues identified within the home.
As this role is based within a care environment, the successful candidate must understand the importance of working safely and respectfully around residents, visitors and staff.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance and repairs throughout the care home.
- Complete planned preventative maintenance checks in accordance with the home's maintenance schedule.
- Identify defects, hazards or areas requiring repair and take appropriate action.
- Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, decorating, carpentry and general repair work within the limits of your competence.
- Ensure that specialist or regulated work is referred to appropriately qualified and competent contractors where required.
- Carry out regular checks of the building, grounds, fixtures, fittings and equipment.
- Support the home with fire safety checks, including fire doors, emergency lighting, escape routes and other routine checks as required.
- Ensure fire exits, escape routes and external pathways remain safe and unobstructed.
- Support routine water safety checks and monitoring in accordance with the home's procedures.
- Report any concerns relating to electrical, gas, water, fire safety or building safety immediately to the Home Manager.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests, prioritising issues that could affect resident or staff safety.
- Liaise with approved contractors and support access to the premises when specialist work, servicing or inspections are required.
- Maintain the grounds and external areas to a safe and presentable standard.
- Ensure tools, equipment and maintenance materials are stored securely and safely, particularly where they could present a risk to residents.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance checks, repairs, servicing and completed works.
- Ensure maintenance documentation is kept up to date and available for audit and regulatory inspection.
- Follow COSHH requirements when using or storing chemicals and maintenance products.
- Comply with health and safety, fire safety, infection prevention and control, and other relevant company policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the Home Manager and wider team to maintain a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for residents.
- Complete any other reasonable maintenance duties required for the safe and effective operation of the home.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, building or similar practical role.
- Good general knowledge of building maintenance and repairs.
- Practical skills in areas such as plumbing, basic electrical work, decorating, carpentry and general repairs.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to recognise when work requires a specialist or appropriately qualified contractor.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise urgent maintenance issues.
- Ability to maintain clear and accurate maintenance records.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with residents, staff, managers and external contractors.
- A professional, respectful and considerate approach when working within a care home environment.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative while escalating significant concerns appropriately.
- Previous maintenance experience within a care home, healthcare or similar regulated environment would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be proactive in identifying potential problems, completing required safety checks and ensuring concerns are addressed before they develop into more significant risks.
You will be joining Stanbrook Care Home, with the support of the wider Mapleton & Interhaze Care Group and its 15 care units, helping us maintain high standards of safety, compliance and quality across our services.
Pay: £13.50 per hour
