General Assistant – Bar & Food Service

The Downe Arms Inn is a welcoming country inn offering great food, comfortable accommodation and genuine Yorkshire hospitality. We are looking for a friendly and reliable General Assistant to join our small, knowledgeable team, with excellent customer service at the heart of everything we do.
About the Role
Your main responsibilities will be bar and food service, helping us provide a warm, efficient and memorable experience for every guest. As part of a small team, you will also be expected to support breakfast service and housekeeping as and when required.
Evening and weekend availability is essential, although we can offer flexibility regarding the days worked.
Typical Duties
- Welcoming guests in a friendly and professional manner
- Serving drinks and providing confident, attentive bar service
- Taking food orders and serving meals
- Preparing the bar and dining areas before service
- Clearing tables and maintaining clean, welcoming guest areas
- Handling payments accurately
- Supporting breakfast service when required
- Assisting with housekeeping and room preparation when needed
- Working closely with colleagues to maintain high standards throughout the inn

- The ability to work well as part of a small team
- Previous bar, restaurant or hospitality experience is helpful, but full training can be provided to the right person
