Job Purpose:
The Internal Sales Estimator will play a pivotal role in driving branch growth by proactively identifying sales opportunities, building strong client relationships, and converting enquiries into orders. Working closely with customers across the construction industry, the successful candidate will quickly assess requirements and deliver accurate, commercially competitive quotations within tight timescales. A key focus of the role is to actively sell our products and services, maximise revenue opportunities, and provide commercially sound solutions that meet customer needs while securing profitable business for the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively engage with new and existing customers to identify sales opportunities, generate enquiries, and maximise order conversion.
- Produce accurate, commercially sound and competitive quotations within agreed turnaround times, ensuring a responsive service that supports customer satisfaction and business growth.
- Follow up quotations with customers to secure orders, negotiate effectively, and maximise sales and margin opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to drive repeat business and strengthen market presence.
- Monitor project pipelines and customer activity using company systems, actively pursuing opportunities to convert enquiries into profitable orders.
- Assess customer requirements and provide commercially viable solutions that balance customer expectations with business objectives.
- Source material and subcontractor pricing to ensure quotations are competitive, commercially robust and aligned with profitability targets.
- Manage customer accounts responsibly, ensuring orders are processed in line with agreed credit limits and payment terms.
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications to accurately understand project requirements and prepare detailed quotations.
- Plan material requirements using optimisation software and manual calculations to achieve efficient and cost-effective project delivery.
- Prepare comprehensive job packs and fabrication instructions to ensure a seamless handover from sales to production.
- Liaise closely with production, drawing office and factory teams to resolve queries promptly and maintain project momentum.
- Conduct detailed handovers of secured orders, providing clear, accurate and complete information to order processing and operational teams.
- Consistently deliver high levels of customer service through proactive communication, swift responses and effective problem-solving.
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by management to support sales growth, operational efficiency and business success.
Person Specification - Essential:
- Minimum 12 month's experience of sales
- Ability to understand working drawings and bill of quantities
- Confident with IT, particularly Microsoft Office Excel
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously meeting the required timescales
- Understanding of and commitment to provide a highest standard of customer service
- High quality verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to provide a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
- A positive team player, with demonstrable ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
- Ability to work autonomously
- Flexibility in working hours
Desirable:
- Previous Estimating / Sales experience within the construction industry
- Nat 5’s (Scottish National 5 Certificate, awarded in grade A – C), Standard Grades (General – Credit), or similar
