Job Title: Early Years Practitioner Level 3
Hours: 36 hours a week
Responsible to: Room Leader
Job Purpose: To provide a high standard of care for children attending the Nursery.

Organisation Context
First Class Nursery was established in 1998 and in 2020 we became part of the YMCA Worcestershire organisation. Our nursery offers quality childcare and education in an environment which is carefully planned and enriched for each child’s learning and care needs. We cater for children from 3 months until 5 years. We are open 51 weeks of the year, closing on Bank Holidays and over Christmas.
We pride ourselves on our history of providing good quality childcare, our excellent relationships with parents, and our very low staff turnover. We are a homely, friendly and supportive environment, and we love what we do!
Person Specification/Key Competencies
To have a sense of fun, and be willing to dress up, read an exciting story, sing out of tune, dance, be a dog, princess or a dinosaur, as requested on demand, get muddy outdoors and get messy whilst being creative would be an advantage.
To have a passion and respect for the early year’s profession and genuine desire to make a difference to a child’s life and learning journey.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To help plan and implement a wide range of inclusive activities to meet the needs of all the children from the age of 3 months old– encouraging the children to become independent learners. Supporting the learning of all children including those with SEND.
- To adhere to the Statutory requirements of the EYFS.
- Contribute to, support and implement the nursery Curriculum to ensure a high quality standard of teaching and learning.
- To teach children what they need to know, and help them achieve their next steps in learning.
- To ensure you maintain a sound knowledge of child development to ensure you meet the needs of all children, whatever level they are developing at. Using guides such as Birth to 5, Development Matters, What to expect when, and Wellcomm, as tools to guide and support your knowledge.
- To maintain a high standard of hygiene and encourage the children to do the same.
- Adhere to Health & Safety procedures of the setting, ensuring supervision, vigilance, and continuous risk assessment.
- To be consistent and conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.
- To abide by the policies of the setting and put them into practice.
- To work with and support other members of staff as part of a team.
- To attend team meetings & planning meetings.
- Responsible for the completion of termly assessments, regular progress reviews and parent conversations for your key children.
- To participate in and take advantage of training courses available, ensuring that you keep up to date with current Early Years thinking.
- To liaise with parents and carers of children to whom they are the ‘key person’ and discuss all matters relating to their child.
- To carry out any domestic duties within the setting as and when required.
- To respond to safeguarding issues and follow policies and procedures.
- To ensure records are maintained to a high standard.
- To maintain confidentiality.
- Operate within the organisational aims and purposes and to have respect for the ethos of the Association/movements values and a readiness to uphold them
- Operate in accordance to the Organisation’s policies and procedures.
- Recognise the importance of our responsibility and our duty of care to safeguard the welfare of and to protect all children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom we work.
Knowledge
- Must have the relevant minimum level 3 qualification with experience, or have/be working towards level 3 Childcare Qualification or equivalent.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage.
- Safeguarding knowledge is preferential, although training will be given upon induction.
