Maintenance Technician / Historic Castle
Otterburn Castle | Northumberland
£13.00 per hour | Zero-hours contract | Typically 20–40 hours per week
About Us
Otterburn Castle is a beautifully restored 17-bedroom historic castle in the heart of Northumberland. As we continue an exciting programme of restoration and improvements, we're looking for an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Technician to help preserve and maintain one of the region's most unique hospitality destinations.
This is not your typical maintenance role. Every day brings a new challenge, from repairing plumbing and restoring historic features to refreshing guest rooms and supporting ongoing renovation projects. If you enjoy problem-solving and take pride in maintaining older buildings, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
This position is primarily focused on maintaining the interior of the castle, ensuring our guest accommodation and public spaces remain in exceptional condition. While occasional outdoor maintenance may be required, our grounds are maintained by a separate team.
Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance throughout the castle and guest accommodation
- Diagnose and repair plumbing issues, including leaks, toilets, taps, and pipework
- Complete basic electrical repairs, replacing lighting, sockets, switches, and fixtures
- Repair plaster, patch walls, prepare surfaces, and paint to a high standard
- Complete carpentry repairs including doors, locks, shelving, skirting, furniture, and general joinery
- Repair flooring, ceilings, tiling, and other interior finishes
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections to identify issues before they become larger repairs
- Assist with ongoing restoration and renovation projects throughout the property
- Liaise with specialist contractors when required
- Keep accurate records of completed work and report larger maintenance issues
- Occasionally assist with outdoor maintenance when required, although this role is primarily focused on the interior of the property

Ideally you'll have experience in:
- Property or hotel maintenance

- Basic electrical work

- A proactive problem solver
- Comfortable using a wide range of hand and power tools
- Friendly and professional around guests and colleagues
- In possession of a full UK driving licence (preferred)
