ABOUT HVSS
High Voltage Substation Services Ltd (HVSS) specialises in the design, installation, testing and commissioning of high voltage substation systems up to 400kV. Established in 2009 and based in north west London, we work with some of the biggest and most innovative names in the energy sector – including DNOs, iDNOs, power generators and renewable energy providers across the UK. Recent projects include 33/11kV and 132/33kV turnkey schemes, 50MW and 67MW battery energy storage systems (BESS) and a 30.72MW PV farm.
ROLE PURPOSE
To carry out low voltage electrical installation, testing and inspection works across HVSS substation projects – including LVAC distribution, battery charger and UPS systems, small power, lighting, containment and auxiliary supplies – to BS 7671 and project specification.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
– Install, modify and terminate LVAC distribution boards, sub-mains and final circuits.
– Install and connect battery charger and UPS systems and associated auxiliary supplies.
– Install small power, lighting, emergency lighting, heating and ventilation supplies within substation buildings and control rooms.
– Install cable containment – tray, basket, trunking, conduit and ladder rack.
– Carry out cable pulling, glanding, termination and identification.
– Complete inspection and testing to BS 7671 and produce Electrical Installation Certificates and Schedules of Test Results.
– Carry out fault finding and rectification on LV systems.
– Work from electrical drawings, schematics, cable schedules and specifications.
– Support the commissioning team with LV pre-commissioning checks.
– Work under the site safe system of work and permit regime, and comply with HVSS health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
This is a low voltage role. No DNO or transmission network authorisation (SSEN, UKPN, NGED or NG) is required.
– NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services (or equivalent) and AM2.
– City & Guilds 2382 – 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), current amendment.
– Valid ECS Gold Card (JIB Approved Electrician or Electrician grade).
– Proven LV installation experience in commercial, industrial or utility environments.
– Full UK driving licence.
DESIRABLE
– City & Guilds 2391 / 2394 / 2395 – Inspection & Testing.
– Previous experience on substation, DNO/iDNO, renewables or other utility sites – helpful but not essential, as full site familiarisation is provided.
– Experience with battery charger, UPS and DC auxiliary systems.
– SSSTS, IPAF, PASMA, abrasive wheels and First Aid at Work.
– HV awareness training – HVSS supports progression towards HV authorisation for the right candidate.

– Strong safety awareness and willingness to work within a controlled permit environment.

Pay: £35,133.98-£50,273.40 per year
