We're looking for a practical, friendly person to join our team!
Student Shack looks after a large number of student houses and Airbnb properties around Fallowfield, Manchester, and we're looking for someone who enjoys being practical, getting stuck in and helping keep our properties looking their best.
This isn't a job where you'll be sitting behind a desk all day!
One day you might be putting up a shelf, the next you could be cutting a hedge, building some flat-pack furniture or heading over to a property because the lights aren't working.
Every day is a little different.
What you'll be doing
You'll be supporting our maintenance team with the day-to-day running of our properties and dealing with the smaller jobs that need sorting.
This could include:
- Changing light bulbs
- Putting up shelves
- Building flat-pack furniture
- Installing blinds
- Doing basic painting and decorating
- Carrying out simple gardening tasks
- Moving equipment and supplies between properties
- Dropping off items such as hoovers or other equipment
- Carrying out basic property maintenance
- Carrying out simple checks around properties
- Identifying straightforward problems and deciding what needs to be done
- Recognising a basic boiler fault and resetting it where appropriate
- Helping our more experienced maintenance team when required
We're not looking for a qualified electrician, plumber or builder. If something requires a skilled tradesperson, our other team members will deal with it.
What we're really looking for is someone who is practical, sensible and willing to have a go at the everyday jobs that keep a property running properly.
The person we're looking for
You don't need loads of qualifications or years of experience.
You might already have experience in maintenance, caretaking, property management, facilities, DIY or something similar — or you might simply be someone who's naturally practical and good at fixing things.
You'll need to:
- Have a full UK driving licence
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Be physically fit enough for a hands-on role
- Be comfortable working on your own
- Have a positive, can-do attitude
- Be reliable and willing to help
- Be able to use your own initiative
- Be willing to have a DBS check
It would also be useful if you have a basic understanding of things such as:
- Consumer units/fuse boards
- Central heating systems
- Stop taps and utility shut-off valves
- Basic DIY and property maintenance
What we're really looking for
A good attitude is more important to us than a long list of qualifications.
We're looking for someone who is calm, friendly and doesn't mind getting their hands dirty.
If you see a loose shelf, a messy garden or a light that needs changing, we'd like you to be the sort of person who thinks "I'll sort that", rather than walking past it!
You'll be working with a friendly team, supporting our more experienced maintenance staff and helping us make sure our tenants have a good experience.
Interested?
If you're practical, reliable and enjoy a job where no two days are exactly the same, we'd love to hear from you.
You don't have to be a tradesperson — we're looking for a good all-rounder with a can-do attitude.
If this sounds like you, get in touch and tell us a little about yourself and why you think you'd be a good fit for the role.
Pay: £27,300.00-£30,000.00 per year
