Job Overview
To provide comprehensive information, advice and support on cost-of-living issues for carers and offer a form filling service for Attendance Allowance, PIP and council tax reduction to carers and their families across the City & County of Swansea.
Responsibilities
- To provide advice and information to carers and their families on the services available to support them.
- To assist carers and their families with the completion of forms and/or documentation in application for services or welfare benefits including AA, PIP, Council tax reduction
- Advising on eligibility for other financial assistance including grants, food bank referrals, fuel voucher referrals
- Support around income maximisation and budgeting
- Provide guidance on cost saving including accessing social tariffs if applicable
Administration
- To be responsible for the recording, collation and monitoring of all relevant information relating to clients accessing our services and the milestones, outcomes and outputs of the service.
- To be responsible for inputting client records onto the organisations case management system and running reports.
Awareness Raising
- To conduct other activities including talks and attending events to raise awareness of Swansea Carers’ Centre and the needs of carers.
- To assist as required with the development and facilitation of Carer Support Groups.
Monitoring & Good Practice
- To provide reports to aid the effective monitoring of the service.
- To maintain up to date knowledge of all legislation and law relating to social security and other related rights and statutory practice. This includes attending appropriate welfare rights training courses and other CPD
- Preparing quarterly reports for our funder
Essential Knowledge
- Knowledge of UK’s welfare benefit and tax credit system, particularly benefits available to carers and their dependants
- Experience of completing Attendance Allowance and PIP forms in the last 2 years or a willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Experience of income maximisation
- Knowledge of statutory and voluntary agencies providing services for carers
- Experience of using MS 365 package including email, internet and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Access)
- Experience of CRM databases
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, adapting style to suit the audience
- Be empathetic to the needs of carers and the people they care for and work in a non-judgemental
- Good administrative and organisational skills
- Ability to work within a small dedicated team that is sometimes under pressure

Pay: £13.54 per hour
