CLS Contract Labour Solutions are recruiting for an experienced Engineering Manager to join the engineering team of a busy FMCG manufacturing operation.
This is a key leadership position, responsible for managing the Engineering and Machine Technician teams and ensuring the engineering function provides effective support to site production operations.
Salary From £70,000
You will be responsible for the planning, organisation, training, development and performance of the engineering team, while ensuring the highest standards of health and safety, engineering compliance and food safety are maintained.
The role will also play an important part in the site's continuous improvement programme, identifying and recommending machinery, equipment and engineering solutions that improve operational efficiency, productivity and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the management and performance of the Engineering and Machine Technician teams.
- Ensure engineering standards are consistently maintained in line with company procedures, food safety standards and BRC requirements.
- Take overall responsibility for site facilities and engineering maintenance.
- Lead, develop and support the engineering team through effective resource planning, training and performance management.
- Ensure planned preventative maintenance, statutory inspections, insurance inspections and contractor works are effectively scheduled, completed, reviewed and documented.
- Ensure all engineering and maintenance activities are carried out safely and in accordance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Manage plant, fabric and facilities maintenance efficiently and in compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Work closely with the Site Leadership Team to ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the agreed specification.
- Apply food safety, HACCP, GMP and relevant quality standards to engineering and maintenance activities.
- Actively participate in the HACCP team, health and safety reviews, GMP audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure repair and maintenance activities comply with approved procedures, engineering standards and all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across machinery, equipment, processes and engineering systems.
- Evaluate and recommend new machinery, equipment and engineering solutions where these can improve efficiency and productivity.
- Liaise and negotiate with engineering, maintenance and facilities suppliers to agree appropriate service levels and contractual arrangements.
- Ensure effective communication with key stakeholders regarding engineering activities, projects, maintenance requirements and site performance.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will be an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in FMCG manufacturing and proven leadership experience.
You will ideally have:
- A technical qualification in an engineering discipline, such as a Degree, HNC or HND, supported by relevant industry experience.
- Proven engineering and leadership experience within an FMCG manufacturing environment.
- A strong track record of managing and developing skilled engineering teams.
- Experience of resource planning, setting standards and coordinating engineering activities to meet business requirements.
- Strong knowledge of HSE requirements, including safe systems of work, risk assessments, statutory inspections and relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of pressure systems and associated statutory requirements.
- Working knowledge of PLCs and automated manufacturing systems.
- Strong IT skills and an awareness of emerging technologies within engineering and manufacturing.
- The ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A logical and analytical approach to decision-making.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
