Role Purpose
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the business, maintaining accurate financial records, managing cashflow, preparing management accounts, supporting payroll processes, and ensuring timely financial reporting.
The role requires strong analytical ability, attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the confidence to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues, clients, banks, and external advisers.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Controls
- Maintain and reconcile company bank accounts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Perform reconciliations within Xero and other financial systems to ensure complete financial accuracy.
- Record supplier invoices, expenses, and financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Manage company payment runs and banking transactions.
- Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with internal procedures.
- Act as the primary contact for day-to-day finance-related enquiries.
Accounts Receivable & Billing
- Prepare and issue invoices to clients accurately and on schedule.
- Manage the accounts receivable function and actively monitor outstanding balances.
- Ensure timely collection of fees and investigate payment discrepancies.
- Liaise with clients regarding billing queries and payment arrangements.
- Work with operational teams to improve billing accuracy and efficiency.
Management Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts for review by the HOO & CFO.
- Produce monthly financial reports and KPI reporting.
- Analyse financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Support year-end accounts preparation and external audit requirements.
Client Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly reports for medical consultant clients.
- Calculate and reconcile consultant payment amounts.
- Ensure all receipts, adjustments, fees, and deductions are accurately applied.
- Produce clear and accurate financial information for client review.
- Investigate and resolve reporting discrepancies.
Cashflow & Treasury Management
- Maintain ongoing awareness of company cash position.
- Develop and maintain rolling cashflow forecasts.
- Monitor working capital and debtor performance.
- Manage relationships with banking providers, including HSBCnet or equivalent corporate banking platforms.
Payroll & Compliance
- Work alongside the HR Manager and external payroll providers to oversee monthly payroll processing.
- Ensure payroll data is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial and tax regulations.
- Liaise with external accountants and advisers where required.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.
- Support automation and efficiency initiatives across finance operations.
- Contribute to business projects and process improvement activities.
- Assist the CFO with ad hoc financial projects and strategic initiatives.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a finance, accounting, or management accounting role.
- Degree-level qualification in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience preparing management accounts and financial reports.
- Experience managing reconciliations, accounts receivable, and cashflow reporting.
- Experience working with external accountants and payroll providers.
Desirable
- ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification (qualified or part-qualified).
- Previous experience in a growing SME environment.
- Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
