Assistant Manager – Coffee Shop
Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and hands-on Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day running of our coffee shop. This role combines leadership with a practical approach, requiring the successful candidate to work across both Front of House and Kitchen operations, will lead by example, ensuring excellent customer service, high food and beverage standards, efficient operations, and compliance with food safety and health & safety regulations.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about hospitality, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and be confident managing people, processes, and customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Support the Store Manager in the daily operation of the coffee shop.
Lead and motivate the team to deliver outstanding customer service.
Supervise staff during shifts and provide coaching and guidance.
Assist with training of new team members.
Conduct opening and closing procedures.
Manage staffing levels and delegate tasks effectively.
Address customer concerns professionally and resolve complaints promptly.
Step into the Store Manager's role when required.
Front of House Responsibilities
Deliver a warm, friendly, and welcoming customer experience.
Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, drinks, and food.
Operate the till and process cash and card transactions accurately.
Maintain cleanliness and presentation of customer-facing areas.
Monitor stock levels for beverages, retail items, and consumables.
Ensure speed and quality of service during busy periods.
Promote menu items and seasonal specials.
Kitchen Responsibilities
Prepare food in accordance with recipes and company standards.
Ensure all food is presented consistently and to a high standard.
Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organisation throughout the day.
Follow food hygiene and food safety procedures at all times.
Monitor food stock levels and minimise waste.
Receive, check, and correctly store deliveries.
Ensure allergen procedures are followed accurately.
Operations
Support stock ordering, stock takes, and inventory control.
Monitor waste and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and reported if faulty.
Maintain accurate records where required.
Support the achievement of sales, labour, and profitability targets.
Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with Food Safety, HACCP, and Health & Safety regulations.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the premises.
Carry out daily safety checks and report hazards.
Ensure all team members follow company policies and procedures.
Promote safe working practices in both the kitchen and front-of-house areas.
Person Specification
Essential
Previous experience in hospitality, café, or coffee shop operations.
Experience supervising or leading a team.
Excellent customer service skills.
Strong communication and organisational abilities.
Ability to work calmly under pressure.
Experience handling cash and operating EPOS systems.
Knowledge of food hygiene and allergen awareness.
Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and holidays.
Ability to work across both kitchen and front-of-house operations.
Desirable
Barista experience.
Food Safety Level 2 Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
First Aid qualification.
Experience with stock management and ordering.
Experience with staff scheduling and rota planning.
