Job Title: Displays Supervisor
Location: Deep Sea World - Fife
Contract Type: Full Time, 40 hours per week
Working Hours: 5 / 7 days on a rota basis
Salary: £27,588.17
Are you an experienced Displays Supervisor, with a passion for animals, team leadership and creating exceptional visitor experiences?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Displays Supervisor to join our team and take a leading role in the day-to-day care of our aquatic collection and the people who help bring it to life.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you will combine your knowledge of animal husbandry with strong people management skills. You will lead, support and motivate our zoo team, ensuring that our animals receive the highest standards of care while our visitors enjoy an engaging and memorable experience.
What you’ll be doing
· Take responsibility for the day-to-day animal husbandry and welfare of the animals
· Lead and coordinate the Zoo team, ensuring daily tasks and operational requirements are completed safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.
· Provide clear direction and delegation, making sure everyone understands their responsibilities and following up to ensure tasks are completed.
· Support and develop team members, helping them build their knowledge confidence and skills.
· Promote a positive, professional and accountable team culture.
· Lead by example, championing animal welfare, health & safety, teamwork and excellent customer service.
· Identify and address issues promptly, using initiative and sound judgement to keep daily operations running effectively.

Person Specification
Please note the following essential criteria are required in order to be successful in gaining this post at recruitment and to be able to effectively undertake the duties required. Please ensure you are confident that you can meet all essential criteria before pursuing an application.
Essential
- Degree or equivalent in Marine Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Marine Sciences, or related discipline.
- Full driving license
- 1-2 years proven supervisory or leadership experience managing teams.
- Hands-on experience in aquatic animal acquisition, transport, quarantining, and handling of fish, elasmobranchs and invertebrates
- Practical experience in the design, installation, plumbing (PVC) and maintenance of complex life support systems (LSS) and pump systems
- Comprehensive knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry, water quality testing, environmental parameter monitoring, and species- specific nutrition and animal handling/transport
- Thorough working knowledge of Zoo Licensing requirements, SSSMZP, BIAZA standards
- Strong understanding of veterinary procedures, medical treatment administration, and animal training/enrichment protocols
- In-depth Health & Safety knowledge (HASAWA, Risk Assessments, emergency response, and animal escape drills
- Understanding of conservation measures, research integration, and Environmental Management Plans (EMP) for exhibits with a strong focus and form understanding of animal welfare assessment frameworks
- Strong leadership and the ability to direct, support, train, distribute workload, conduct daily briefings, and address performance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence in public speaking
- Proficient in IT and MS Office
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills with strong attention to detail
- Problem solving attitude with ability to communicate solutions and use own initiative
- Physical ability to lift bags of salt (up to 20 kg) and perform duties in hot/cold plant rooms and exhibit environments
- Positive “can do” attitude, highly professional presentation, and willingness to assist with call-outs and across other sites
