This position has become available as our gamekeeper and estate handyman departs. The position is permanent and full-time. The following duties are a general guide and there may be occasions where a flexibility to work out-with the normal hours and perform other duties is required. Support will be given when required. Certification will be discussed at interview.
The ideal applicant will have a can-do attitude and be friendly, flexible and be able to carry out general maintenance in a timely and efficient manner along with being physically fit. The ability to work on your initiative as a solo individual is vital as the successful candidate, although part of a small team, will be ultimately responsible for all maintenance and largely manage their own workload. Therefore, the ability to tackle and prioritise a wide range of tasks, including both simple jobs and more complex maintenance work is essential along with the ability to safely use a variety of tools and climb ladders for tasks like gutter-cleaning. Patience and an ability to remain calm under pressure are essential, as is being comfortable in proximity with horses.
Duties to include:
- Knowledge of health and safety
- Using estate vehicles
- Experience of off-road driving would be desirable
- Emptying of muckheap, supplying hay / straw
- Using various equipment to cut grass including topping paddocks
- Maintenance of paddocks including water drinkers, portable electric-fencing
- Repair and maintenance of stock fencing
- Ensuring the burn flows and remains debris free
- Carrying out basic forestry work as required
- General knowledge of gardening – pruning, shaping etc
- Knowledge of basic maintenance for repairing of tools / equipment / vehicles
- Liaising with family / contractors and other staff to preform your duties
- Weed spraying
- Vermin control
Main Residence
- Responsibility for the security, alarms, emergency contact
- Topping up coal, wood, kindling and emptying of ash buckets
- Maintenance as required
- Keeping the outside areas clean and tidy
- Vermin control
- Taking family cars to garages for repairs / MOT / etc.
Rental properties
- Dealing with enquires from tenants regarding repairs/faults and liaising with office / tradesmen
- General all-round maintenance, window repairs, plumbing, joinery, pointing
- Supporting the office to ensure government regulations are followed
- Vermin control
- Basic decorating skills
Gamekeeper Duties
- Animal husbandry in particular pheasants
- Knowledge of nature and wildlife
- Ability to work with animals, in particular dogs
- Having a gun license or ability to have one is desirable
