Description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dual-role Payroll Administrator and Bookkeeper within our specialist Pharmacy department, supporting community pharmacies and locum pharmacists across the UK.
This role offers a balanced workload of approximately 60% payroll and 40% bookkeeping, making it ideal for someone looking to broaden their experience within a dynamic and growing team. Full pharmacy-specific training, support and guidance will be provided by our experienced team.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll:
Process payroll on SAGE from client information supplied within agreed timelines.
Send draft payslips and all reports and notify client of PAYE/NIC due and RTI filing post approvals.
Carry out pension filings and auto enrolment and be able to advise clients on work place pension.
Deal with any PAYE queries raised by client or HMRC.
Manage year-end submissions, including preparing and issuing P60 and P45 forms.
Adding joiners/leavers.
Set up new payroll schemes when required.
Be able to advise clients on SMP, SSP, redundancy pay, attachment to earnings and other payroll matters.
Reply promptly to client and partner enquiries via phone and/or email.
Handle all incoming correspondence relevant to your assigned client portfolio.
Bookkeeping:
Initially Prepare VAT returns from client information supplied to gain knowledge of pharmacy specifics. This will then lead to a review and advisory role.
Assisting senior team members with managing VAT processes and ensuring returns are completed within internal deadlines.
Liaising with clients to address queries and proactively following up on missing or incomplete information.
Working mainly with cloud-based platforms such as Xero.
Assisting with management accounts during less busier periods.
Communicating with HMRC on routine client matters if and when requested.
Supporting the team with ad-hoc accounting and administrative tasks.
Key Requirements
Part qualified with experience or qualified by experience.
2 years’ experience in payroll.
Experience of SAGE payroll (and/or Brightpay but not necessary).
Basic knowledge of bookkeeping principles and double-entry accounting.
Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
Knowledge of VAT rules and basic HMRC requirements.
Competent skills on Microsoft office applications.
Adherence to budgeted time for jobs through time management.
Good analytical skills.
