The National Energy Foundation is an independent charity based in Milton Keynes, which has been at the forefront of improving the use of energy in buildings since 1988. We aim to give people, organisation’s and government the knowledge, support and inspiration they need to understand, manage and reduce the use of energy in buildings.
Role Summary
The Finance Manager is responsible for the accurate collection, review and entry of information into the organisation’s information systems and ultimately financial statements. Preparation on monthly management accounts and statutory accounts and reporting,
This is a hands on role and will have line management responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
· Responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely processing of all daily transactions including but not limited to the following:
o Banking processes and administration including reconciliation
o Accounts payable process, including expenses and payment runs as required
o Accounts receivable process, including sale invoices, debt collection and reporting
o General ledger journal entries, accruals, prepayments and depreciation
· Management Accounts preparation, analysis and variance reporting providing business insight
· Budgeting and Forecasting
· Managing Outsourced Payroll processing, including pensions reporting
· Balance Sheet reconciliations and asset management
· Production of management and year-end accounts, including Project Analysis
· Ensure correct application of VAT method and Quarterly submissions
· Assist with Cash Flow reporting and Forecasting
· Main point of contact for annual audit
· Deal with and resolve queries in a timely manner
· Ad hoc projects and perform additional tasks as necessary
· Business support as necessary
Person Specification - essential
· Part qualified / qualified accountant.
· Ensure all business process are followed and all authority levels are adhered to
· Self- motivated and results orientated with excellent organisational skills and the ability to work to and implement processes.
· Excellent organisational skills and time management and attention to detail
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
· Experience of ERP and/or financial systems essential
· Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Advanced Excel skills
· Strong analytical skills to effectively analyse financial reports
· Proactive and resourceful with a desire to improve systems and procedures
· Sound understanding of accounting, including accruals and provisions and fundamentals of UKVAT
· Basic knowledge of charity accounting and reporting (SORP)
Desirable (not essential)
· Previous line management experience
· Experience working in the charity sector
· Experience of partial exemptions VAT
