This postdoctoral position contributes to a UKRI-funded programme developing anatomy-driven artificial intelligence for translational neuroscience, with a focus on understanding how cognitive computations emerge from cortex-wide neural dynamics across species.
The PDRA will contribute primarily to developing and analysing Cortically-Embedded Recurrent Neural Networks (CERNNs) that simulate large-scale neural dynamics during cognitive tasks. The PDRA will develop cortically-embedded models of visual cognition that can interact with images and/or videos in a way that is species-specific. Extensions to other sensory modalities may also be considered. These models will integrate species-specific anatomical constraints and ecological considerations to enable principled comparisons between human, macaque, marmoset, and rodent cognition. The PDRA will have the opportunity to lead a collaboration on this topic with Prof. Christopher Summerfield (Department of Experimental Psychology).
This role is well suited to a postdoctoral researcher seeking advanced training at the interface of computational neuroscience, neuroanatomy, and AI, with opportunities to build expertise towards future fellowships or faculty positions.

The post is available from 15th September 2027, it is full time (part time at minimum 0.8 FTE may be considered) for a fixed term until 14th September 2029 in the first instance.
