We are excited to offer an opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join our busy and supportive GP practice in a dual-role position combining both Healthcare Assistant duties and Clinical Coding/QOF responsibilities.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both patient-facing clinical work and the administrative side of primary care, including clinical coding, recalls, medicines safety monitoring, and data quality improvement.
The successful candidate will work closely with our GPs, Nurses, Clinical Pharmacist, and wider Practice team to help deliver safe, effective, and high-quality care to our patients.
Main Duties of the Role
The postholder will be expected to undertake both clinical Healthcare Assistant responsibilities and non-clinical coding/QOF duties as part of one integrated role within the Practice.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Undertake new patient health checks, including completion of relevant paperwork and referrals
- Perform blood pressure monitoring
- Carry out phlebotomy
- Record ECGs as required
- Support diabetic monitoring subject to competency
- Carry out weight monitoring and lifestyle assessments
- Administer injections including B12, pneumococcal and shingles vaccinations within level of training
- Undertake seasonal immunisations for adults and children following appropriate training and PSD
- Remove stitches and staples within level of competency
- Perform wound care and dressing changes
- Complete alcohol questionnaires and mini-mental assessments where appropriate
- Provide lifestyle, dietary and health promotion advice to patients
- Contact patients for recalls, reviews, and follow-up appointments
- Act as a chaperone for clinicians when required
- Support infection prevention and control standards throughout the Practice
- Maintain and restock clinical rooms and supplies
- Ensure vaccine fridge monitoring and cold chain processes are maintained in line with Practice policy
- Undertake any additional reasonable clinical duties following appropriate training and competency sign-off
Clinical Coding, QOF & Administrative Responsibilities
- Review and accurately code clinical correspondence using SNOMED coding within EMIS Web
- Maintain accurate patient records, problem lists, and follow-up actions
- Generate and manage QOF recall searches and ensure patients are booked into appropriate clinics
- Monitor QOF activity and support achievement of Practice targets
- Support medicines safety and high-risk drug monitoring alongside the Clinical Pharmacist
- Assist with audits, data quality improvement, and CQC evidence gathering
- Ensure all clinical activity is coded correctly to support QOF registers, safety alerts, enhanced services, and reporting requirements
- Process claims and supporting documentation where required
- Work proactively to improve data quality and patient care outcomes
Essential Criteria
- Experience working within a GP Practice or Primary Care setting
- Previous Healthcare Assistant experience including phlebotomy
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
- Good IT skills and confidence using clinical systems
- Ability to manage both clinical and administrative workloads effectively
- Understanding of confidentiality, information governance, and patient safety
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication and patient care skills
Desirable Criteria
- EMIS Web experience
- SNOMED coding experience
- Knowledge of QOF processes and recall systems
- Experience supporting medicines safety and CQC compliance
- Immunisation and vaccination training
- Experience in ECGs and diabetic monitoring
