Warehouse & Workshop Operative
Kernow Fixings – St Austell, Cornwall
Full-time · Permanent · Monday to Friday
About the role
We are looking for a reliable, hands-on Warehouse & Workshop Operative to join our busy operations team at our Head Office in St Austell. Working to a weekly Operations Team Schedule, you’ll rotate across a variety of warehouse and workshop tasks including picking, packing, goods in, despatch and fabrication – so no two days are the same.
What you'll be doing
- Picking, packing and despatching customer orders with a high level of care and 100% accuracy.
- Checking in and processing goods received against purchase orders, and reporting any shortages, damages or discrepancies.
- Monitoring stock – allocations, movements, bin locations, adjustments, weighing and labelling.
- Uploading deliveries to carrier sites and liaising daily with couriers and drivers on collections and ETAs.
- Processing and inspecting customer returns to ensure goods are in resalable condition.
- Loading distribution vehicles safely and presentably.
- Using machinery and cutting equipment in line with training provided.
- Assisting with pre-fabrication and workshop tasks – cutting and pre-assembly of frames, brackets and supports to customer specification.
- Routine inventory counting, housekeeping and general support for the Operations Team Leader.
- Occasional delivery driving using company vehicles, as directed.
What we're looking for
- A positive, can-do attitude and excellent communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, work ethic and attention to detail.
- Numerate and focused on accuracy.
- Experience with stock management software.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Good IT skills – Outlook, Word, Excel, Office 365 and ERP systems.
- GCSE/AS/A Level qualifications or higher (role dependent).
- A full UK driving licence.
Desirable (but not essential)
- FLT Counterbalance and/or Reach truck licence.
- Health & Safety qualification (basic or higher).
Hours
Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm, with a 30-minute lunch break and 10-minute breaks morning and afternoon.
Why join Kernow Fixings?
We’re a close-knit team that takes pride in doing things properly – our warehouse is an extension of our showroom. We offer full training on our systems and equipment, regular performance reviews, and the opportunity to get involved in improvement projects across the operation.
