- Position: Outfitting Estimator
***Are you an experienced estimator with analytical depth, commercial judgment, and the technical confidence to own complex maritime outfitting estimates — plus the flexibility and willingness to adapt and learn new ways of working? ***
If that's you, HEY THERE!
We're looking for an EXPERIENCED OUTFITTING ESTIMATOR to join our commercial team at Trimline. This is a hands-on role where you'll own the preparation of cost estimates for marine outfitting projects, working with evolving scopes and complex technical requirements. You'll collaborate closely with project teams, clients, and our manufacturing partners to develop accurate, defensible pricing that reflects both opportunity and risk.
This isn't a desk-only position — you'll also conduct site surveys (across the globe), clarify project requirements directly with stakeholders, and help develop your estimating knowledge as you grow into the role. You'll contribute to improving our estimating processes and, over time, support others as your expertise deepens.
What You'll Be Doing
- Prepare cost estimates for outfitting projects, interpreting scope documents and specifications with guidance from senior colleagues
- Conduct site surveys and technical discussions to clarify requirements and identify risks
- Articulate the reasoning behind your estimates and discuss pricing with clients and internal teams
- Identify commercial and technical risks early, and build appropriate allowances into your estimates
- Use our estimating systems accurately and contribute ideas for process improvement
- Engage with project, design, and manufacturing teams to ensure your estimates align with broader commercial strategy
- Take responsibility for the completeness and accuracy of your estimates before they're submitted
- Support the broader team through clear communication, professionalism, and a collaborative approach
Essential Experience, Skills & Personal Qualities
Experience:
- 5+ years in construction estimating, marine/shipbuilding, or a related technical estimating discipline
- Familiarity with complex project scopes, multi-trade coordination, and cost-build methodology
- Exposure to risk identification and contingency planning in estimates
- Track record of working with clients and cross-functional teams on technical clarification
Skills:
- Strong numeracy and attention to detail — accuracy matters
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and estimating software (AND willingness to learn ours quickly)
- Clear written and verbal communication — you can explain your reasoning to both technical and commercial audiences
- Problem-solving mindset; comfortable interpreting incomplete or evolving specifications
- Commercial awareness — you understand cost drivers, margin, and business impact
Personality & Approach:
- Curious and detail-oriented — you ask good questions to clarify ambiguity rather than making assumptions
- Collaborative — you actively engage with colleagues across the business and value their input
- Ownership mindset — you take responsibility for the quality of your work and follow through
- Resilient and adaptable — you stay calm when scope is unclear and can adjust approach as requirements evolve
- Professional and reliable — you meet deadlines, communicate proactively, and represent the business well
- Coachable — you're open to feedback and committed to developing your technical and commercial judgment
- Integrity-focused — you handle confidential information responsibly and uphold company policies
