Mobile Crane Engineer – Crawler Cranes & Foundation Machines
Location: Biggleswade
Salary: £45,000 – £70,000 per year
Hours: 40 hours per week
Overtime: 1.5x hourly rate, increasing to 2x after 4 hours
We are looking for an experienced Service Engineer to join our team, specialising in crawler cranes, foundation machinery and heavy plant equipment.

Mobile Crane Engineer The Role
As a Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the servicing, inspection, fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of crawler cranes, foundation machinery and associated heavy plant equipment.
You will work at customer sites, company premises and depots, providing a high-quality and professional service while ensuring equipment is maintained safely and efficiently.
Mobile Crane Engineer Key Responsibilities
- Carry out servicing, inspections, maintenance and repairs on crawler cranes, foundation machinery and heavy plant equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and other equipment faults and carry out appropriate repairs.
- Work at customer premises, company sites and depots as required.
- Follow manufacturer specifications, technical information and recommended repair procedures.
- Complete service reports, paperwork and other administration accurately and on time.
- Manage warranty and returned parts, ensuring they are cleaned, correctly labelled, packed and returned within required timescales.
- Report damaged or defective company equipment and escalate issues where appropriate.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with customers, colleagues and the wider support team.
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand their requirements and provide a professional, flexible service.
- Ensure work areas and customer sites are left clean, safe and tidy following completion of repairs.
- Maintain a strong focus on health and safety at all times.
- Support colleagues and contribute to an effective team environment.
- Identify opportunities to improve working practices, efficiency and service quality.
Mobile Crane Engineer About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A recognised apprenticeship in a relevant engineering or mechanical discipline, ideally to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with heavy plant, crawler cranes, foundation equipment or similar machinery.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical knowledge.
- A CSCS Card.
- Slinger/Signaller certification.
- A professional approach with strong customer service skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
- A full UK driving licence.
