About us
United Worldwide Logistics is an established freight forwarding, road haulage and warehousing business based at Pencoed Technology Park, Bridgend. We move over 300,000 consignments a year for clients across automotive, pharma, aerospace, defence and retail, and we run our own UK fleet alongside a 160,000 sq ft warehousing operation. We hold FORS Gold and ISO 9001, and we've twice won the BIFA Extra Mile Award. This is a full-time, on-site role for a Transport Manager who wants to own the transport compliance function properly, not manage it from a distance.
The role
You'll be the nominated Transport Manager on our operator's licence, exercising genuine day-to-day control of the fleet. This is a hands-on position, on site every operational day, with a direct line to the directors and real authority to run the operation the way it should be run.
What you'll be responsible for
- Acting as the nominated Transport Manager on UWL's O-licence, maintaining continuous and effective control of the fleet
- Owning driver compliance: drivers' hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph analysis, licence checks and Driver CPC records
- Managing daily walkaround checks and defect management through VehoCheck, including assessing defects, taking vehicles off the road when required, and overseeing rectification
- Planning and controlling safety inspections, servicing and MOTs, and keeping maintenance records audit-ready
- Overseeing ADR-plated operations and coordinating with our external DGSA
- Maintaining FORS Gold accreditation and preparing for audits
- Working with the directors on fleet strategy, vehicle replacement and running-cost control
What you'll need
Essential:
- A valid Transport Manager CPC in Road Haulage (National as a minimum; International an advantage)
- Proven experience managing an O-licensed fleet, ideally mixed vehicle types
- Strong working knowledge of drivers' hours, WTD, tachograph and maintenance compliance
- The presence and authority to run a transport operation hands-on, on site, every day
Desirable:
- ADR / dangerous goods experience
- Familiarity with FORS and ISO 9001
- Background in freight forwarding or a combined haulage and warehousing environment
