Job summary
Brendan Anderton Butchers Ltd is a family-run meat business supplying meat products to catering and retail customers.
We are looking for a reliable Meat Operative to join our production team. The role involves preparing, processing, weighing, packing and labelling meat products in a busy chilled environment.
Previous food-production or meat-processing experience is helpful but not essential.
Main responsibilities
- Prepare, process, weigh, portion and pack meat products
- Pick and pack customer orders accurately
- Check quantities, weights, labels and pack sizes
- Complete basic production and traceability records
- Operate machinery safely once trained and authorised
- Follow food-safety, HACCP, hygiene and allergen procedures
- Maintain clean and organised production areas
- Follow stock-rotation, health and safety and manual-handling procedures
- Report any quality, labelling, equipment or food-safety concerns
Essential requirements
Applicants must:
- Be able to read, write and understand instructions, labels and safety information
- Have basic numeracy skills, including counting, addition and checking weights and quantities
- Be reliable, punctual and able to follow procedures
- Have good attention to detail
- Be willing to handle raw meat and work in a chilled environment
- Be able to work well as part of a team
- Be able to travel reliably to the site for early starts
No formal qualifications are essential, but applicants must have sufficient literacy, comprehension and numeracy skills to carry out the role safely and accurately.
Desirable experience
- Food production, meat processing, factory, packing or butchery experience
- Experience using food-production machinery
- Level 2 Food Safety or Basic Food Hygiene certificate
- Manual-handling training
Physical requirements
The role involves standing for long periods, manual handling, repetitive tasks, working in chilled conditions and using knives, tools and machinery once trained.
