Thanet Earth is one of the largest employers in East Kent. During seasonal peaks we can have up to 900 people working on site, whether that’s in one of our six greenhouses, in our packing factory or in our commercial and administration team.
We want to make sure we have the right people in place to support our growth and we are now looking for a bright and enthusiastic Section Leader to join our Distribution team based at Thanet Earth in Birchington, Kent.
You will provide strong leadership, motivating and supporting a team of Multi-Skilled Operatives (MSO’s) to achieve outstanding service levels, delivering productivity targets whilst prioritising and maintaining the highest standards of Health & Safety in a dynamic fast paced environment.
Other responsibilities include:
- Coaching and developing the team to consistently meet performance standards.
- Planning work patterns in conjunction with the Distribution Shift Manager.
- Working collaboratively across departments, coordinating activity to meet daily objectives.
- Regularly engaging, with MSOs to ensure understanding of the role and personal contribution to the continued success of the business.
- Deputising for the Distribution Shift Manager as and when required.
Key accountabilities
- Ideally a minimum of one year’s experience in a FMCG/fresh produce/warehouse supervisory role.
- Working knowledge of food production/handling procedures and processes.
- Demonstrable leadership, interpersonal, communication and management skills.
- Competent in problem solving, team building and planning.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
A day in the life…….
“You'll face daily challenges and communicate effectively with your team and supporting functions giving direct instructions for tasks such as loading and unloading. Additionally, you'll review KPIs, hold monthly feedback meetings, and address issues affecting customers. Safety is a priority, and you'll focus on creating a safe working environment by encouraging, supporting, and challenging behaviours. A positive approach to the fast-paced operation is essential, along with following SOPs, solving problems, and identifying risks and costs. You'll drive productivity, identify areas for improvement, and motivate your team to continuously improve and ensure efficiency.”
Working hours:
You will work a 4 on 2 off rota after completion of training. This role will predominantly be front shift hours, but you will also work a 3-month period on back shift on a rota basis. The rota results in a 16-shift deficit per annum. You will be expected to work the remaining 16 shifts on a pre-arranged basis to cover colleague holidays etc.
Due to our remote location and limited public transportation options, candidates must have their own means of transport for daily commuting.
