About us:
Sunshine Scooters specialises in purchasing, refurbishing, repairing and selling quality used mobility scooters, powerchairs and other mobility equipment.
We don't simply clean up used equipment and sell it on. Every product that comes through our workshop needs to be properly inspected, repaired, refurbished and prepared to a standard that we are happy to put our name to.
As the business continues to grow, we're looking for another Mobility Equipment Engineer to join our team.
This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys fixing things, solving problems and taking pride in their work.
You don't necessarily need previous experience with mobility equipment. If you've got strong mechanical and electrical skills, the right attitude and you're willing to learn, we'll provide product-specific training.
What you will be doing:
No two days in our workshop are exactly the same.
You'll work on a wide range of mobility scooters, powerchairs and mobility equipment from different manufacturers, ages and conditions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults
- Servicing and repairing mobility scooters, powerchairs and other mobility equipment
- Refurbishing used equipment ready for resale
- Carrying out battery, electrical and component testing
- Replacing and repairing motors, transaxles, brakes, wiring, plastics and other components
- Cleaning, preparing, spraying and plastic welding products where required
- Completing pre-delivery inspections and quality checks
- Assembling and preparing new equipment
- Collecting and returning equipment requiring repair
- Occasionally carrying out repairs at customers' homes
- Delivering equipment and providing customers with a clear and professional product handover
- Maintaining workshop stock, parts and equipment
- Keeping your work area clean, safe and organised
- Supporting the wider team with workshop and delivery logistics when required
There person we are looking for:
Technical ability is important, but attitude and accountability matter just as much to us.
At Sunshine Scooters, we expect our team to operate Above the Line:
Ownership. Accountability. Responsibility.
That means if something goes wrong, we don't look for someone else to blame or make excuses. We acknowledge it, fix it, learn from it and move forward.
We're looking for someone who:
- Takes pride in doing a job properly
- Takes ownership of their work from start to finish
- Can admit when they've made a mistake and focus on putting it right
- Uses their initiative rather than waiting to be told every next step
- Is naturally practical and enjoys fault finding
- Is organised and looks after their workspace, tools and equipment
- Can work independently while still being a good team member
- Is comfortable asking for help when they don't know something
- Is reliable and understands that other members of the team depend on them
- Communicates well with both colleagues and customers
- Wants to learn and develop their technical knowledge
What you will need:
Essential:
- Previous mechanical, engineering, automotive, electrical or similar hands-on experience
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Confidence diagnosing and repairing faults
- Basic electrical/electronic fault-finding ability
- Comfortable using hand and power tools
- Full UK driving licence
- At least three years' driving experience
- Confidence driving company vans and travelling to customers when required
Desirable, but not essential:
- Previous mobility equipment experience
- Experience repairing mobility scooters or powered wheelchairs
- Automotive, motorcycle, bicycle, plant, electrical or similar repair experience
- Experience with spraying, plastic repair or refurbishment
- Customer-facing field service experience
Mobility industry experience is not essential.
Full product-specific training will be provided by our Technical Lead.
What We Offer
- £29,000 – £33,000 salary, depending on experience
- Monday to Friday working
- 8:00am - 4:00pm hours
- Optional overtime during busy periods
- Full mobility product training
- A varied role working across many different products and manufacturers
- The opportunity to develop your technical knowledge as the company grows
- Company van provided when carrying out deliveries, collections or field work
- A supportive team where good work, initiative and accountability are recognised
What Success Looks Like
We're not looking for someone who simply wants to turn up, complete a list of jobs and go home.
A successful engineer at Sunshine Scooters is someone who can be trusted with a product and take responsibility for getting it from problem to solution.
They notice things that aren't right. They ask questions. They solve problems. They help the people around them. And when they say something is ready to go to a customer, the rest of the team can trust that it has been done properly.
If that sounds like the way you like to work, we'd like to hear from you.
