Role Summary
As our Procurement Specialist, you’ll support the delivery of high-quality products and services by performing assigned tasks efficiently, safely, and to standard, while upholding Garner Osborne’s values, quality expectations, and commitment to continuous improvement.
The role is onsite in Newbury and the working hours are:
07:45am - 16:45pm Mon-Thurs and 07:45am - 14:15pm Fri
Key Responsibilities:
- Supplier evaluation and onboarding and management: Assess and approve new suppliers for capability, quality, and compliance. Negotiate competitive pricing and favourable terms, ensuring fairness and long-term relationships.
- Cost reduction initiatives: Identify opportunities for savings through alternative sourcing, bulk purchasing, or supplier consolidation.
- Compliance, standards and risk management: Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to industry regulations (e.g., RoHS, REACH) and company quality standards. Monitor supply chain risks (e.g., long lead times, geopolitical issues) and develop contingency plans.
- Continuous improvement: Contribute to process improvements in purchasing workflows, ERP utilization, and supplier performance tracking.
- Customer communication: Provide proactive updates to customers regarding order status, maintaining professionalism, empathy, and a solution-focused approach.
- Performance reporting: Prepare and deliver monthly reports to support Purchasing KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives.
Operational/Day-to-Day:
- Maintain ERP accuracy: Load Bills of Materials (BOMs) into the ERP system and verify accuracy through a two-person check procedure.
- Conduct contract reviews: Ensure supplier contracts are compliant and aligned with company requirements.
- Support production planning: Raise work orders and generate picking lists for stores to facilitate timely material availability.
- Manage purchase orders: Create and process purchase orders for requisitions, including production shortages, MRP-driven requirements, express buys, project-specific needs, and quote-based purchasing.
- Procure factory consumables: Source and purchase essential factory requirements such as bare board materials, chemicals, and other production inputs.
- Expedite orders: Monitor and follow up on outstanding purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery.
- Process documentation: Raise and action change notes, return notes, and concession forms in line with company procedures.
- Inventory coordination: Collaborate with stores and production teams to maintain optimal stock levels and avoid shortages or excess.
About you
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Basic understanding of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and ERP systems to support purchasing and production planning.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word) and handling PDF documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a team and across departments to achieve shared objectives.
- Negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain positive supplier relationships.
- High level of accuracy in processing orders, contracts, and documentation.
- Time management and prioritisation abilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Proactive approach to resolving supply chain issues and production shortages.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
The below skills are preferred but aren’t essential.
- Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) certification at any level.
- Background in electronics manufacturing or related sectors.
- Understanding of global supply chain dynamics, lead times, and risk management.
