Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, caring, and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant / Chef to join our team in a nursing home environment. This rewarding role combines both kitchen assistant and chef duties, providing an excellent opportunity to support the wellbeing of our residents through the preparation, presentation, and service of nutritious meals.
The successful candidate will work:
- 2 Chef shifts per week
- 1 Kitchen Assistant shift per week
- Worked over a two-week rota
This is a 31.5-hour per week position, worked over a two-week rota and combining both Chef and Kitchen Assistant duties.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a caring environment and takes pride in delivering high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and customer service. You will play an important role in supporting residents' wellbeing by helping to provide nutritious meals and ensuring a positive dining experience within our nursing home.
Key Responsibilities Chef & Kitchen Duties
- Prepare, plate, and serve meals in accordance with residents' dietary requirements and preferences.
- Support the delivery of high-quality meals and refreshments throughout the day.
- Ensure all kitchen areas, dining spaces, and equipment are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment promptly and thoroughly.
- Assist with the safe storage, rotation, and organisation of food supplies and deliveries.
- Follow all food safety, health and safety, and infection control procedures.
- Dispose of waste appropriately and maintain a safe, tidy working environment.
- Work closely with care and kitchen teams to ensure residents receive meals in a timely, dignified, and respectful manner.

Qualifications
- Previous experience in a care, hospitality, or cleaning role is beneficial but not essential (full training provided)
- Awareness of hygiene and food safety standards is desirable
- Ability to work efficiently and follow instructions carefully
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Friendly, patient, and respectful approach, especially when interacting with residents
- Strong teamwork and communication skills

Chef Shifts are 0700 - 1800
Kitchen Assistant shifts are 0930 - 1900
