Company overview:
Froude has been designing, manufacturing and supplying engine test equipment since William Froude invented the water brake dynamometer in 1877 at the request of the British Admiralty to produce a machine capable of absorbing and measuring the power of large naval engines. The group we have today has evolved from the original business named Heenan & Froude.
We produce dynamometer test solutions for our customers to ensure their engine test requirements are met, designed by our mechanical, electrical and software applications engineers.
We have two manufacturing and support centers; Froude Inc. in the USA and Froude Ltd. in Worcester UK. Our facilities manufacture the complete range of hydraulic, (water brakes) eddy current, and AC dynamometers as well as the Go Power line of portable engine dynamometers.
In addition to our range of test cell solutions, Froude offers dynamometer refurbishments, spares, repairs and maintenance contracts within our customer service plans.
We are a globally respected manufacturer renowned for our innovation, engineering excellence, and deep industry heritage.
Role overview
The opportunity:
Are you a hands-on engineer who enjoys being out in the field, solving technical problems and seeing equipment working successfully at customer sites?
Froude is looking for a Commissioning, Service & Test Engineer to join our Customer Service & Aftermarket team in Worcester. This is a varied engineering role combining international customer-site commissioning and service with factory-based testing and validation.
You will work on Froude's specialist dynamometer and test equipment, commissioning and servicing systems at customer sites around the world, diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic issues, and helping customers get the best performance from their equipment.
When you are not travelling, you will work within our Worcester facility, testing, calibrating and preparing equipment for customer delivery and supporting our Test Department.
No two weeks are necessarily the same; one week you could be commissioning a dynamometer overseas, the next you could be running a test cell in Worcester, fault-finding equipment or supporting a development project.
This role would suit an engineer who enjoys variety, responsibility, practical engineering and working directly with customers, and who is looking for the opportunity to develop their technical skills across both field and factory environments.
What you'll be doing:
Commissioning, servicing and testing Froude equipment at customer sites in the UK and internationally.
Diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults.
Working independently at customer sites and representing Froude professionally.
Running factory test programmes including power, spin, valve and functional testing.
Calibrating and validating equipment before it is delivered to customers.
Supporting customer training and technical enquiries.
Working with Engineering and Production on testing, refurbishment and development projects.
Completing technical reports and ensuring customer and project requirements are met.
This is a genuinely hands-on engineering role with the opportunity to travel internationally, work on specialist equipment and build experience across commissioning, service and test engineering.
Skill and experience requirements include:
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Experience commissioning, servicing or fault-finding industrial equipment.
Experience in product testing, inspection, calibration systems and measurement equipment.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Ability and willingness to undertake international travel.
