Brief summary of the role
This is a post as a Youth Worker (Part time, Bank Staff) for the Basement Youth Trust.
Work will be on the basis of a flexible, zero-hours contract. Sessional work is offered on an ad-hoc, as-needed basis. There are no guaranteed hours of work, and you are free to accept or decline shifts offered to you. For guidance only bank staff members can reasonably expect to be invited to cover two shifts per month (5 hours).
The Basement Youth Trust (BYT) is a small, local, independent Charity which exists to provide positive activities for young people of secondary school age and runs sessions on 3 evenings a week. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The job involves supervising sessions for young people at the Venue, Hill Street.
There is a team of Youth Workers, led by a Team Leader who organise the sessions. This post is for a new member of that staff. Previous experience of work or volunteering with young people would be an advantage but training needs will be discussed with a successful candidate.
Activities regularly available to young people are pool, cooking, art, a table tennis table, football, basketball and gaming consoles. There is a small tuck ‘café’ run from the kitchen. New ideas for activities are welcome according to the interests of the young people and the skills and interests of the youth workers.
Hours of opening are 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings though we ask staff to be there for an extra 15 minutes to allow for getting equipment out before the start, and 15 minutes after closing for team feedback. Pay is kept at or just above the national living wage. Currently pay is £12.96 per hour, reassessed annually, and there is a paid probationary period of 3 months. Bank staff are paid in lieu of annual leave calculated at the end of the year or when their contract ends based on 12.07% of the hours worked to date.
Everyone who works as a youth worker for the BYT is expected to complete an enhanced DBS clearance, which the BYT pay for.
We will ask applicants to fill in our Application Form - please email [email protected] for more information and to receive the Form, making sure you give your preferred email address also.
