R&B Rock Drillers Ltd is a Specialist Quarry Drilling Contractor. Founded in 1968 R&B Rockdrillers has seen huge growth over its 50+-year history. Originally created to service one local quarry the company now provides high-quality drilling and blasting services to 15 to 20 Quarries primarily in the Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire regions. This growth coupled with advancements in technology has seen the company invest in the latest profiling, drilling and blasting equipment to provide its customers with more cost effective and environmentally friendly services. We provide DTH (down-the-hole) drilling services to the Extractives Sector (Quarries) maintaining the highest standards of safety and site compliance.

Key Responsibilities (Both Roles, Scaled to Experience)
- Set up, operate, and maintain DTH Drilling Rig safely and efficiently across designated quarry sites
- Interpret and follow drill patterns and blast design instructions accurately
- Carry out daily pre-start and end-of-shift checks on the Drilling Rig and associated equipment, reporting faults promptly
- Complete accurate daily Driller reports, fault logs, and production records
- Identify and report ground conditions, geological variations, or hazards that may affect drilling operations
- Carry out routine Rig maintenance and minor repairs as required, escalating major faults to engineering support
- Work collaboratively with co-workers, on-site supervisors, and quarry management to ensure drilling schedules are met
- Adhere to all site-specific method statements, risk assessments, and permits to work
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment around the Drilling Rig and drill site
- Actively participate in site safety briefings, toolbox talks, and near-miss/incident reporting
- Support a positive health and safety culture, including speaking up on hazards or unsafe practices
Trainee Drillers will carry out these duties under supervision, progressing towards independent working as competency is developed.
Person Specifications
Experienced Driller — Essential
- Proven experience operating drilling rigs within a quarry or extractives environment
- Sound understanding of quarry drilling operations, ground conditions, and blast pattern requirements
- Strong working knowledge of health and safety requirements relevant to quarry drilling (e.g. Quarries Regulations)
- Ability to work independently and manage own workload across multiple sites
Trainee Driller — Essential
- Willingness to learn and work towards industry-recognised drilling qualifications
- Basic mechanical comfort working with machinery/plant
- Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow instruction closely
Both Roles: Essential Person Specifications
- Good communication skills, both written (for reports/logs) and verbal (liaising with site teams, co-workers and the management team)
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
- Full UK driving licence (travel between sites is required; however, a company vehicle and fuel card will be provided for work purpose only)
Working Conditions
· Site-based roles covering multiple Quarry locations across Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire
- Outdoor working in varying weather conditions
- Full PPE required and provided
- Early starts and site-dependent working hours may apply
- Travel between sites and the Head Office is a core requirement of the role
