Job Role:
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Kitchen Gardener to join our team and take responsibility for the growing and production of high-quality, seasonal fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers for our on-site culinary operations. This will be on a part-time basis, working days and hours are flexible and can be discussed at interview stage.
Working closely with our chefs, you will play an important role in growing produce that reflects the seasons and supports our outstanding chefsTABLE private dining and tasting menu experience, as well as supplying fresh, seasonal produce to our on-site café.
A key part of the role will be developing a strong relationship with the culinary team.
You will work together to identify opportunities for growing unusual, interesting and seasonal produce that can become a feature of the chefsTABLE experience, while ensuring there is also a dependable supply of fresh produce for the café.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is passionate about growing exceptional produce and excited by the connection between the garden and the kitchen. You will have the opportunity to see your produce go directly from the garden to the plate.
Accountabilities:
- Plan, grow and harvest a diverse range of seasonal fruit, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers.
- Work closely with the chefs to understand upcoming menus, ingredients and seasonal requirements.
- Grow specialist and bespoke crops specifically for the chefsTABLE private dining experience, responding to the chefs’ ideas and requirements.
- Produce a reliable supply of fresh, seasonal ingredients for the on-site café.
- Develop planting and growing plans to ensure a consistent supply of produce throughout the year.
- Monitor crops from sowing through to harvest, ensuring produce is picked at its optimum quality and freshness.
- Maintain high standards of soil health, crop health and overall garden presentation.
- Use sustainable and environmentally responsible growing practices wherever possible.
- Manage propagation, seed sowing, planting, watering, feeding, pruning, harvesting and general crop maintenance.
- Monitor and manage pests, diseases and weeds using appropriate, sustainable methods.
- Keep accurate records of sowing, planting, harvesting and crop performance.
- Minimise waste and make effective use of surplus or seasonal produce.
- Keep the chefs informed of what is growing, what is ready to harvest and what is coming into season.
- Contribute ideas for new, unusual or heritage varieties that could add value to the menus.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
Skills:
- Has practical experience in kitchen gardening, horticulture or a similar growing environment.
- Has a genuine passion for growing and producing high-quality food.
- Has a strong understanding of seasonal growing and crop planning.
- Takes pride in producing excellent-quality fruit and vegetables.
- Enjoys working collaboratively with chefs and understands the importance of flavour, freshness and presentation.
- Is organised, proactive and able to work independently.
- Has good attention to detail and takes pride in maintaining a productive and attractive garden.
- Is physically fit and comfortable with the practical nature of horticultural work.
- Has an interest in sustainable and environmentally responsible growing practices.
- Ability to follow strict Health and Safety procedures throughout site
Due to our location it would be hugely beneficial if you were a car driver/owner. There is limited public transport to the business park. Must have a flexible approach to work in relation to working days and hours, additional hours will be required during busy periods
Pay: £14.05 per hour
