Yard Hand — Gweek Classic Boatyard, Cornwall
Location: Gweek Quay, Gweek, near Helston, Cornwall, TR12 6UF
Nominal Hours: 0800 – 1700 Mon–Fri (42.5 hrs/week)
Salary: Up to £32,000, dependent on experience
Holiday entitlement: 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
About Us
Gweek Classic Boatyard is a traditional Cornish boatyard based in the upper reaches of the beautiful Helford River. With a rich maritime history it is situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Gweek.
Storage for over 250 vessels both hardstanding and undercover, and cranage for boats up to 26 tonnes.
Gweek Classic Boatyard was acquired by new owners in July 2017 and has since undergone serious improvements on-site.
The boatyard has a wealth of skilled tenants including Shipwrights, boatbuilders, painters and engineering services.
The Role
We're looking for a reliable, practical Yard Hand to join our small team, supporting vessel movements and handling, maintenance, and general upkeep within the yard and afloat.
You will being reporting directly to the Yard Manager and work alongside the current Yard Hand as well as the occasional workers when they are required.
Duties include: lifting operations, launching, and moving boats (slipway, crane, trailers), maintaining plant, pressure washing, antifouling, and boat prep.
General site and yard maintenance; basic rigging, painting, assisting tenants and customers, enforcing site rules and upholding HSE standards.
What We're Looking For
Practical and hands-on; able to work alone or as part of a team
Comfortable working outdoors in all weathers
Professional, customer-facing manner
A keen eye for health and safety
Desirable Experience: Marine industry, Lifting operations, Plant operations, Mechanical engineering, Building or Ground works, Electrical services.
Advantageous qualifications: Slinger/Signaller, Forklift, Telehandler, 360 Excavator, RYA Powerboat Level 2, Site Safety (e.g. CSCS, SSSTS).
