Overall purpose of the role
- Take overall accountability for the pitches and surrounding areas within the remit of the Cricket Club
- Ensure that all outdoor areas, including pitches, practice areas, gardens, and pathways, are safe, well-maintained and prepared to a high standard
- Interact with other club personnel, working collaboratively with colleagues as part of a professional team to maintain, conserve and enhance the grounds and sports facilities as directed by the Head of House & Grounds (HHG)
- Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, health and safety practices
This post is practically based and will involve outside work on the grounds
Objectives
- Produce the best quality wickets possible, marked out to correct specifications for game type
- Produce the highest quality outfield, cut at the correct height and at suitable times before games
- Maintain the grounds maintenance, vehicles and equipment to a high standard
- Be responsible for the Grounds department buildings and premises as directed by the HHG, ensuring they are kept in a safe and secure manner
Principle areas of responsibility
- Deliver to schedules set by the HHG. This will include involvement in weekday and weekend fixtures throughout the year
- Complete all pre-season rolling of both squares to the recommended hours. Should weather conditions dictate, this will continue into the playing season.
- Ensure any remedial work takes place in a timely manner
- Ensure square is cut and looking presentable for all games.
- Maintained surrounds to the highest standard, kept neat and presentable
- Assist in the development of seasonal and weather dependent schedules of work including snow clearance, salting paths and roads and provision of the sports surfaces as necessary, including the erection and dismantling of sports equipment
- Actively promote, implement and monitor the house and grounds teams’ health and safety systems and ensure any activities are compliant in accordance with the Clubs and Safety Policy, in support of the HHG
- Estimate materials and supplies for the proper function of the Grounds department and keep stocks of supplies and materials
- Liaise with the HHG to ensure best use of the staff resources (if required).
- Ensure that consistent standards of presentation and legal compliance are maintained
- Maintain plant, such as the wash down area, fuel and pesticide storage so as to ensure both correct usage and Health and Safety compliance
- Maintain all outdoor sports areas on the two pitches
- Maintain fences, hedges & paths
- Schedule regular surveys of the Club’s trees, coordinating any required work through in house and contracted tree surgeons.
- Dealing with contractors from time to time.
- Support HHG in relevant tasks and carry out any other reasonable work as and when necessary.
- Coordinate works as directed by the HHG with other departments within the Club, particularly when preparing for functions and events.
- Provide a practice wicket during the week for training night and other occasions when directed by HHG or Director of Cricket only
- Empty all ground bins into main bins. Main bins to be collected from gate and returned to Clubhouse area (weekly or bi-weekly as needed).
- Maintain fencing around the grounds
- Keep the sightscreens in good working order
- Keep car park, groundsman area and yard tidy at all times
- Daily litter picking during the summer months and once during the winter months, including removal of fly tipping
- Maintain the nets, keeping them moss & weed free, and covers
- Open & close the facility, including gates
- Clear paths, including de-icing where appropriate
- Maintain plant borders and patio planters
- Maintain patios, including regular sweeping
- Undertake general small maintenance jobs, such as outside lights, picket fence repair, small painting jobs etc
Pay: £36,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
