Wade Building Services is a well-established steel fabrication company based in Birtley, County Durham, specialising in the production and supply of structural steelwork, builders' steel, steel beams and columns, and fabricated steel components for customers across the UK.
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Factory Operative / Sawyer to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work in a busy manufacturing environment and takes pride in producing quality products to high standards.
Both full-time and part-time applicants will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate steel cutting saws and associated workshop machinery safely and efficiently.
- Measure, prepare and cut steel sections accurately from production schedules and drawings.
- Assist with the manufacture and preparation of structural steelwork, builders' steel, beams, columns and fabricated components.
- Load and unload materials using appropriate handling equipment where trained.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Carry out routine equipment checks and report maintenance requirements.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure production targets and customer deadlines are met.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe workplace.
- Support other areas of the factory as required.
About You
We are looking for someone with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Previous experience in steel fabrication or manufacturing is advantageous but not essential.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience operating band saws or steel cutting equipment (preferred but not essential).
- Good attention to detail and the ability to work accurately.
- A strong work ethic and dependable attendance record.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a flexible approach to work.
- Physical fitness suitable for manual handling and factory duties.
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
- Forklift truck experience is desirable but not required.
