We’re a busy independent newsagent and off-licence on Steyning High Street looking for a Store Manager to take full charge of the day-to-day running of the shop. We serve a loyal base of regulars alongside strong passing trade, and we’re after someone who wants to run their own store rather than just cover shifts.
What you’ll be doing
- Opening up, closing down and keeping the store running smoothly across the week
- Leading a small team — rotas, training, and setting the standard on the shop floor
- Managing newspaper and magazine orders, unsolds and returns, plus the home news delivery round
- Ordering, stock control and waste across confectionery, drinks, chilled and food to go
- Daily cash-ups, banking and reconciling till, lottery and PayPoint takings
- Keeping us fully compliant on age-restricted sales, licensing and food safety
- Looking for the small wins that grow sales — better siting, sharper promotions, fewer gaps on shelf
What we’re looking for
- Experience managing or supervising a convenience store, newsagent, off licence or forecourt
- Solid understanding of age-restricted sales and Challenge 25
- Confident with cash handling, EPOS and basic sales reporting
- Someone reliable enough to hold keys and be trusted with the shop
- Flexible on hours — this role includes early starts from around 5 am, weekends and bank holidays
Useful but not essential: Personal Licence, Food Hygiene Level 2, Post Office counter experience. We’ll fund the training if you don’t have it.
Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Employee discount
- Store discount
Work Location: In person
