Environmental & Sustainability Advisor
Ferrovial Construction is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Environmental & Sustainability Advisor to support the delivery of major UK infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-profile construction schemes, working closely with the Environmental Manager and wider project teams to drive environmental compliance, improve sustainability performance and embed best practice across site operations. The role will involve supporting the preparation and review of environmental documentation, carrying out site assurance visits, contributing to environmental reporting and helping project teams deliver in line with Ferrovial’s Environmental Management System.

Key Accountabilities
- Support the delivery of project environmental objectives in line with company policy, procedures and client requirements.
- Undertake site assurance visits to monitor compliance, identify good practice and support timely close-out of environmental actions.
- Promote continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability performance across project teams and supply chain partners.
- Maintain awareness of current environmental legislation, industry standards and best practice, helping to translate requirements into practical site controls.
- Assist with the preparation and review of key environmental documentation, including Environmental Management Plans, Site Waste Management Plans, Dewatering Management Plans and related procedures.
- Support briefings, toolbox talks and communication strategies to ensure environmental controls and key requirements are clearly understood by employees and subcontractors.
- Monitor site activities and project documentation against Works Information, Ferrovial standards, technical standards and environmental commitments.
- Prepare clear environmental and sustainability reports, dashboards and updates for project and senior management teams.
- Support the Project Environmental Manager with environmental audits, inspections, investigations and lessons learned activities.
- Provide practical advice on environmental requirements and promote innovation, ownership and continuous improvement across the site team.
- Support the development and maintenance of performance measurement systems, including SmartWaste, internal trackers and other reporting tools.
- Assist with incident investigations by gathering evidence, supporting root cause analysis and helping identify effective corrective actions.
- Help ensure client, customer and stakeholder environmental requirements are understood and embedded throughout project delivery.
- Champion Ferrovial Construction UK’s Vision and Values, taking ownership of assigned work and contributing positively to the wider project culture.
- Promote safe working practices on site and support the implementation of Ferrovial Construction’s Environmental and Sustainability policies and procedures.
Skills and Competence
We are looking for a motivated environmental professional who is keen to develop their career on complex infrastructure projects and make a meaningful contribution to environmental and sustainability outcomes.
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with site teams, subcontractors, designers, clients and senior stakeholders.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to produce clear reports, briefings and environmental documentation.
- Degree or Master’s qualification in an environmental, sustainability, construction, engineering or related discipline.
- Right to work in the UK and Ireland.
- A proactive mindset, with the motivation to learn, take ownership and add value to the team.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify practical solutions in a fast-paced site environment.
- A collaborative approach and proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- A genuine interest in environmental management, sustainability and continuous improvement within the construction industry.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of how environmental performance supports successful project delivery.
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications and confidence using digital reporting tools.

Desirable
- Membership of IEMA, working towards IEMA membership, or membership of a similar professional body.
- Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and its practical application on construction projects.
- Awareness of health and safety legislation and the importance of integrated site management.
- Previous environmental or sustainability experience within construction, infrastructure or a similar site-based environment.
- CSCS Card or willingness to obtain one.
- Experience using One Click LCA, SmartWaste or similar environmental and sustainability reporting tools.
