Assistant Client Manager
Role summary
The Assistant Client Manager supports the Client Manager in delivering compliance and advisory work across a portfolio of owner managed businesses. The role carries responsibility for preparing work to a reviewable standard, dealing with routine client queries directly, and keeping jobs moving through the practice workflow. It is a development role, intended to build towards Client Manager over time.
Reporting and structure
● Reports to: Client Manager
● Works alongside: Practice Manager, Practice Administrator and the wider team
● Direct reports: none initially, with the expectation of supervising junior and trainee staff as the role develops
Key responsibilities
Compliance delivery
● Prepare year end accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships under FRS 102 Section 1A and FRS 105, to a standard that can be reviewed rather than reworked
● Prepare corporation tax computations and CT600 returns
● Prepare personal tax returns, including employment, dividend, property and capital gains pages
● Prepare and review VAT returns across standard, cash and flat rate schemes, including reconciliation to the underlying records
● Run and check payrolls, including RTI submissions, auto enrolment uploads and P11D and benefits reporting
● Prepare working papers to support each job, with queries clearly identified and resolved before submission for review
Client contact
● Act as day to day contact for an allocated group of clients, dealing with routine queries directly and escalating technical points to the Client Manager
● Draft client correspondence, information requests and query lists for review
● Chase outstanding records and information, and keep clients informed of progress and deadlines
Workflow and quality
● Maintain job status in the practice management system so that deadlines and bottlenecks are visible
● Monitor filing deadlines across accounts, corporation tax, self assessment, VAT and payroll, and flag risks early
● Ensure engagement letters, client due diligence and AML records are in place and current for allocated clients
● Support the Client Manager in reviewing the work of trainees and offshore or outsourced staff
Person specification
Essential
● Part qualified ACCA or ACA, or qualified by experience, with a minimum of two to three years in a UK accountancy practice
● Able to take a set of records through to draft accounts with limited supervision
● Working knowledge of UK corporation tax, personal tax, VAT and PAYE
● Confident with cloud bookkeeping, ideally Xero, and with accounts production and practice management software
● Strong Excel skills, including lookups and pivot tables
● Clear written English and the confidence to deal with clients directly
● Organised, deadline driven, and comfortable managing several jobs at once
Desirable
● Experience of Capium or a comparable integrated practice system
● Exposure to group structures, incorporations or other advisory work
● Experience of supervising or reviewing the work of others
● Experience of an outsourced or offshore delivery model
How performance will be measured
● Jobs submitted for review requiring minimal rework
● Deadlines met across the allocated portfolio, with no late filings
● Clients dealt with promptly and professionally, with queries resolved rather than passed on
● Chargeable time and recovery in line with agreed targets
● Engagement letters and AML records complete and current across the allocated portfolio
Development and progression
The role is designed as the step below Client Manager. Progression depends on demonstrating consistent technical accuracy, the ability to hold client relationships independently, and the capacity to review the work of others. Study support towards ACCA or ACA is available where relevant, with the usual conditions on time off and fees.

● Hours: 37.5 per week
● Location: Office based Crossharbour London(Hybrid depending on curcumstances)
● Salary: £26,000 to £30,000
