We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Solar Technical Manager to join our growing renewable energy business and take responsibility for the technical and operational management of our renewable energy projects.
This is a key role for someone with strong technical knowledge across Solar PV and renewable energy systems, combined with experience in MCS, PAS 2030/2035, compliance, quality management and installation operations.
You will work closely with management, surveyors, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and office teams to ensure projects are designed, scheduled and delivered to a high technical and quality standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day technical operations of the renewable energy division.
- Oversee Solar PV and other renewable energy installations from technical approval through to completion.
- Ensure installations comply with MCS, PAS 2030/2035, Building Regulations, electrical regulations and relevant industry standards.
- Prepare for and manage MCS and PAS audits, ensuring all records and documentation are accurate and audit-ready.
- Review technical surveys, system designs and installation documentation.
- Plan and coordinate installation schedules to maximise engineer productivity and project efficiency.
- Manage installation teams and provide technical support and guidance where required.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding equipment, procurement, deliveries, warranties and technical issues.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and oversee inventory of renewable energy equipment and materials.
- Monitor installation quality and arrange remedial works where required.
- Investigate and resolve technical queries from customers, engineers and subcontractors.
- Work closely with surveyors and installers to identify and resolve technical issues before and during installation.
- Support the development and improvement of technical procedures, installation processes and quality controls.
- Maintain accurate project and compliance records.
- Support management with technical decisions, project planning and continuous improvement.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and to the required quality standards.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a Solar Technical Manager, Renewable Energy Technical Manager, Technical Supervisor, Senior Solar Operations or similar role.
- Strong practical and technical knowledge of Solar PV systems and installation practices.
- Good understanding of MCS standards and PAS 2030/2035 requirements.
- Experience preparing for or managing MCS and PAS audits.
- Experience managing engineers, installers or subcontractors.
- Strong project coordination, scheduling and organisational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and project/scheduling systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Level 3 Electrical Qualification.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Solar PV installation or design qualification.
- Battery Storage experience.
- Heat Pump / ASHP experience.
- Experience with renewable energy grant schemes, including ECO or similar funding programmes.
- Experience with MCS certification and technical audits.
- Experience with domestic renewable energy installations.
