Progress Teachers are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Greater Manchester to recruit Level 2 and Level 3 SEN Teaching Assistants to join its dedicated and experienced team.
This is an opportunity to work in a setting where positive relationships, consistency and personalised support are at the heart of pupil success. The provision supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, learning disabilities and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
You’ll work alongside teachers, therapists and pastoral professionals to help pupils re-engage with education, overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence, independence and skills they need to make meaningful progress.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1, small-group and classroom-based support to pupils with a range of SEND.
- Helping pupils access personalised learning and work towards their EHCP outcomes and individual targets.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, communication, social development and independent learning.
- Implementing agreed behaviour support strategies consistently and positively.
- Using trauma-informed, restorative and relationship-based approaches to encourage engagement and positive behaviour.
- Helping to maintain a calm, structured and safe environment where pupils feel supported and able to learn.
- Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral colleagues to provide consistent, joined-up support.
- Monitoring and recording pupil progress, engagement and wellbeing to help inform future support and interventions.
- Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, resilience and the practical skills needed both inside and outside the classroom.
What We’re Looking For
We’re keen to hear from candidates who:
- Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
- Have experience supporting pupils with ASC, SEMH, learning disabilities and/or communication needs – highly desirable.
- Are calm, patient and empathetic when working with young people.
- Can build strong professional relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
- Are confident supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional and regulation needs.
- Can remain consistent and resilient when faced with challenging situations.
- Have a genuine commitment to inclusive education and helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
- Communicate effectively and work well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding and child-centred practice.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or are willing to obtain one.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is more than a traditional classroom support role. You’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people who may have struggled to engage with mainstream education.
You’ll be part of a supportive environment where staff work collaboratively and individual pupil needs are placed at the centre of the provision. The role also provides valuable experience working alongside education, therapeutic and pastoral professionals within the specialist SEND and Alternative Provision sector.
Whether you’re an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or looking to develop your career within specialist education, this could be an excellent opportunity to strengthen your skills and make a lasting impact.
